Unfortunately this unit does not come with a bit. Can you use a laminate trimmer instead of a router and are there latch and strike plate templates available (for same)The Ryobi Teams's response is odd - I think they do not understand what you are asking. The included instruction sheet has the following as an instruction header: "Using Router or Laminate Trimmer." The kit includes an onboard stowed front support rail to accomodate a smaller router base such as on a laminate trimmer. For the unknowing, a laminate trimmer is just a small version of a router intended for trimming the edges of countertop laminates. It works very well for door and cabinet hinge work. No, for the door frame. The unit is for door carcass hinges only. No way to use directly on the frame. You will have to go to something like a Milescraft (or identical Sears Craftsman) kit. Useful, but nothing as easy and simple as this Ryobi jig. No for latch plates, but Ryobi door lock installation kits include templates and a bit for latch and strike plates.
Again, your laminate trimmer would be the ideal routing tool. I lost the little rounded corner pieces. Where can I buy replacement parts?Unfortunately the template does not have replacement parts. Does this item come with a bit?Built in storage for it too. I would not use a dremel 3000 with this jig. I prefer to use plunge routers with the jig, and currently use the DeWalt Trim router with plunge base and a med power DeWalt Plunge router. Can a dremel router be used with this? Not that I can imagine, firstly the supplied router bit has to fit the collet of your tool. Secondly, the base of the router glides along the top of the jig, this template not only gives you the outline of the door hinge, but also the depth. where do I buy a replacement router bit ?This set had the 1/4 shank bit/ 0.5 in length/ 1/2 bit diameter. There is a older model, I have both , they are the same except the color, It is on amazon 1 left, it is double the cost. if you do get it it comes with it's own router bit when using it be careful starting and stopping it is plastic one slip and the tool is flawed.
