IKEA Mattress Review: When is Cheap too Cheap? Home Furniture & Fixtures Ikea Hovag Pocket Sprung Mattress Pocket Sprung Mattress - Available as: Single > Show product information 1 reviews from the communityHolds a good shape. Single sided use only may be a problem for some. "A most comfortable mattress" When purchasing our daughter's new single bed from Ikea we also decided we would purchase the mattress from there, saving us the trip around bed and furniture shops to find a suitable mattress. The Hovag mattress was my husband's choice, I wanted one that had a memory foam topping but his reasoning was that at her very light weight this was unnecessary and we could purchase a memory foam topper should it become necessary at a later date. The mattress is provided rolled up for ease of transportation, when unrolled you are required to leave it flat for a number of hours to fully flatten. This was easy for us as we simply put our daughter into bed with her sister for two nights to give the mattress adequate time to adjust to being in an unrolled state.

It is pocket sprung and Ikea say it is stuffed with a soft filling to create a soft but medium firm base on which to sleep. The size of the mattress is 190cm x 30cm so fitted the Hemnes bed frame we chose perfectly. This mattress is designed to be slept on one side only so it does not require being turned. As my daughter is so young I have placed a waterproof cover over the mattress in case of a bed wetting accident, this has not happened but in my view it is better to be safe than sorry. I would still use this sheet if the mattress could be turned but it's necessity would be less if we could use both sides of the mattress for sleeping on.My daughter is always comfortable in bed at night and we have had no need to purchase the memory foam topper that was discussed at the time we purchased this mattress. The mattress is almost 9" thick so a tall mattress compared to the one on my bed, the Hemnes bed has an adjustable base to accommodate this but if you are considering making a purchase of this mattress for another brand of bed you should check it will hold such a tall mattress.

I have lain on this mattress myself, most recently when my daughter had tonsillitis at the beginning of the summer holidays. I found it to be very comfortably and the lack of sleep I experienced that night was because of being next to a sweaty and fidgety child and not through any fault of the mattress. It has been in use for many months now and has developed no distortion of the shape or thickness, there is no staining on the mattress but I would not expect that to happen based on my use of the mattress protector. At a cost of £150 this is a reasonable price for such a high quality and comfortable mattress and I would repurchase should this be necessary for either of my daughters or even for the bed my husband and I use. Product Information : Ikea Hovag Pocket Sprung Mattress Listed on Ciao since:I'l try to be as objective as a can in answering your question but the simple answer is, "No." Looking at the Sultan Hagavik model this is a lower profile marshall coil unit that contains only a single border rod and a few layers of 1.8 and 1.5 lb. density foam.  They don't list the thicknesses for the foam or the gauge of the steel for the innerspring unit.  Objectively this model isn't something that I would classify or ever represent as premium adult support, and certainly not appropriate for someone with a bad back.  The bed will contour to your body, but not due to any advanced design.  It simply lacks support.  Having seen these beds in person I have a pretty good idea on the quality of construction and methods used, but I'm not writing to disparage the product. IKEA mattresses used to come from Poland, then some were made in Mexico (recalled due to not meeting USA Flame Resistant guidelines).

IBC was contracted to make some products for IKEA - not sure where this one comes from, as it's not listed on the web site. You can do so much better from a major brand with better foams, a more advanced innerspring and much better construction.  and look under the BEDUCATION section for some really good objective information that will help you select a mattress. The IKEA mattresses I’ve had were decent but whether or not ones under $300 is worth the money depends on how rested you are over time when you sleep in them. For me, I was a broke college student so anything cheap was good enough for me and no way would I buy a used mattress. However, I found that there are much better mattresses for that price budget.A good mattress is one of the most important things you can buy and since you have a bad back, it’s even more important. If you are going to buy one of the cheaper IKEA mattresses for whatever reason, you can buy one of those mattress toppers that can increase the level of comfort for your mattress.

Although, with better mattresses for around the same price range out there, you might as well just buy one of those.Personally, I’d stay away from IKEA when it comes to low price point mattresses but most of their other stuff is great such as sectional sofas, desks, and bed sheets. Those laundry hamper things they sell for under $10 is also awesome. Had mine for over 8 years.I would avoid it. We had a temporary move for work (2 year relo) and needed to get a mattress for our apartment. Bought the sultan queen and box spring. Was fine at first, but after about 18 months of two (not overweight) adults sleeping on it, it got some warping and flat spots, I had also discovered when I moved it that several of the wooden parts of the box spring (just a bunch of slats really) had broken in half. We ended up just throwing them in the dumpster. (Goodwill won’t even take this broken flimsy crap). I think these mattresses must be made for an 8 year old, 80 pound child. I think I spent about 375 on the set.
