How to use sand in building construction

Sand is one of the most indispensable materials in construction. The exact usage of sand depends on its kind.

According to the elementary classification, there are two types of sand: pit-run and river. The application of sand depends on its fraction and fineness modulus. The measures vary from 0.4 to 5 mm. Thus, a specific type of sand can be used for different tasks:

cement and concrete production,
concrete grouts and mixtures production,
construction of roads, pedestrian precincts and bridges.

Pit-run sand

Because of the specific location of extraction points, different impurities like small stones and dust get into the pit-run sand. This type of sand can be used in its original as well as processed form. The size of the grains varies from 0.6 mm to 3.2 mm.  When processed, it’s used for finishing, walls and ceiling plastering.  When not processed, it’s used for understructure and trenches works.

River sand

River sand has a high culvert level. The size of the grains varies from 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm.  This type of sand is used for:

levelcrete production,
concrete grouts and cleansing filters production.

When river sand gets into the concrete grout, it produces a sediment. It’s necessary to stir the mixture constantly. By this reason, concrete is always transported in a special cement truck which bodywork is constantly moving and mixing the grout.
