This is often the first question people ask us when searching for new heated bedding. But strangely enough, this feature may not be as important as it seems! In our opinion you should not give up any other features you want just in order to get one with the quickest pre-heating. Holding all other items constant (for example, the addition of a comforter over your heating blanket or mattress cover), your bed warmth depends on the amounts of time and the wattage (the measure of heat) supplied by the heating blanket. So, basic science tells us that, if you want to shorten the time it takes to warm your bed, you must increase the wattage. Electric blanket and electric mattress pad pre-heating works by energizing the product at a higher wattage (heat level) during the pre-heat period before switching itself to the normal heat level. But you need to know that by turning on any warming blanket or warming mattress pad that does not have the pre-heat feature a few minutes earlier, you can accomplish the same warm bed at an identical cost of electricity.
Aside from knowing about the pre-heat feature, here are some important questions to ask yourself when selecting an automatic blanket or mattress pad: Is the product safe? Is the product comfortable? Is the product easy to take care of? Is this a high quality product that will last more than a couple of years? What features will I need or want? How much should the initial price influence my decision? As we always preach, be sure to get the heated blanket or mattress pad that is the right one FOR YOU. Focusing on only one feature among many could mean that you are compromising the quality or features of the product that you buy, or you are over-paying when you might have gotten a product more suited for yourself."How can this product be listed as 'Not waterproof' and 'Machine washable for easy care'?" In other words you spill liquid on it the product the product will absorb it.......it is not "waterproof".......so you dry it........same applies to "machine washable"........ machine wash and dry on gentle cycles.......have washed and dryer mine twice......all goood.....:0)
This product is not waterproof. It is cotton and polyester. It can be washed in the washer. Waterproof means fluids cannot penetrate the material. Machine washable means when you get it wet washing it you can dry it and it it still safe. "What is the voltage range of the heating blanket. (100-220v) or is it for U.S. voltages only?" This is manufactured for the US market. "Can it be used with a mattress protector cover? All of our beds have mattress protector covers on because our child is allergic to dust mites. Also, does this product emit significant amount of electromagnetic waves?" The cover can accommodate thicker mattresses, so I would assume that if you have a normal thickness mattress with a cover, that the pad would work fine. I have no idea about electromagnetic waves though. Unfortunately I can't answer that because we don't use mattress protector covers and I wouldn't know about electromagnetic waves. I just know I love having a nice toasty bed in the winter when I climb in.
We will turn it on high about an hour before we go to bed and then it's really nice and warm. I will keep mine on low throughout the night but my husband turns his side off. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful I use a mattress cover over my heated mattress pad without any problems. I do not not have the answer about electromagnetic waves, though? Hello lordthunder, Diabetes has many possible complications, including nerve damage (neuropathy). Over time, excess blood sugar can injure the walls of the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) that nourish the nerves. This can cause tingling or numbness that usually begins at the tips of the toes or fingers and over a period of months or years gradually spreads upward. Left untreated, it's possible to lose all sense of feeling in the affected limbs. If you have any degree of nerve damage, you may not be able to sense if an electric blanket or heating pad is too hot — which can lead to inadvertent burns.
