Pick of the Litter The Faithful Little Cupcake World Championship Tae Kwon DoThere are a few things in life that make me happy than walking into a Lush store – it feels almost therapeutic. There’s a Lush store in one of the malls nearby and every time I walk by the store, I get pulled into a world of fragrances and beautiful products in amazing colors and all kinds of shapes and sizes. It’s like a candy store for women like me who are constantly looking for amazing beauty products ;). More and more people are using vegetarian and cruelty-free products and then there’s Lush, which makes fresh, hand-made, environment-friendly and cruelty-free and ultimately guilt-free products.

Shopping at Lush is an experience in itself. I have used their bath bombs, bubble bars, and massage bars quite often. I wanted to try a shampoo bar as I had heard good reviews about their hair care products, and finally managed to get my hands on one of them.  For any hair care or skin care product, I prefer reviews that are posted after the person has used the product for a considerable amount of time. Hence, I am reviewing the Lush Godiva Shampoo Bar after almost two months of usage. 2-in-1 jasmine shampoo with conditioning butters.  Our vegan, 2-in-1 shampoo bar cleans and conditions your hair with moisturizing nut oils and shea butter. These butters and oils care for dry, processed locks and leave you with glossy, shiny, and softened tresses. Long used as a tonic for the hair and scalp, jasmine also perfumes your locks with an ultra-sexy fragrance with serious staying power. Named after a certain naked protestor, Godiva gets to work sending a message to your hair. Lush’s recommended usage tip: Wet both hair and the shampoo bar.

Glide the shampoo bar down the length of your hair about three times (right, left and back). Work into a lather and rinse thoroughly. Follow with Lush conditioner if needed. Keep your solid shampoo in a cool, dry place between uses; we recommend using a Lush shampoo bar tin. 11.95 USD for 1.9 oz of the shampoo bar. Ingredients: Whole lot of goodness. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate , Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter (Theobroma Cacao) , Cetearyl Alcohol and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate , Glycerl Stearate & Peg – 100 Stearate , Propylene Glycol , Hibiscus Extract (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) , Stearic Acid , Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) , Cetearyl Alcohol , Fragrance , Cetrimonium Bromide , Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera) , Camellia Oil (Camellia Japonica) , Cold Pressed Organic Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis) , Organic Macadamia Nut Oil (Macadamia ternifolia) , Cupuacu Butter (Theobroma Grandiflorum) , Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum grandiflorum) , Ylang Ylang Oil (Cananga odorata) , Cypress Oil (Cupressus sempervirens) , Palmarossa Oil (Cymbopogan martini) , Jasmine Flowers (Jasminum officinale) , Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides) , *Benzyl Alcohol , *Geraniol , *Limonene , *Linalool .

*Occurs naturally in essential oils. Packaging:The shampoo bar comes without any plastic containers (Lush has a policy of using as less plastic as possible, they call it naked packaging), so I ended up buying a tin as well. Make sure you invest (it’s not cheap either, I think I paid around 3.95 USD) in a tin and keep the shampoo bar in the tin and away from the shower area. While wet, I keep the tin open to let the shampoo dry and then close the tin. I have dry and dull hair. Thankfully, I manage to keep dandruff away using The Body Shop Ginger Scalp Care shampoo, which has suited my hair perfectly. I generally prefer not to experiment too much with shampoos but I couldn’t stop myself when I walked into a Lush store and with a very convincing salesgirl. The sales people at Lush are amazing and are always willing to talk more about your particular skin and hair needs. I wanted something for my dry and unruly hair. The Lush Lady (sales lady at the Lush store) suggested I go for the jasmine flavored Godiva shampoo bar meant for dry hair.

After using the shampoo bar for two months, I am happy to say that I have found the shampoo quite pleasing. One of the first thing I noticed about using the shampoo bar is how less it is needed for medium length hair. I barely rub in on the scalp once or twice and it lathers quite well. The fragrance is as if someone has poured a bucketful of jasmine flowers on my hair. The best part is that the fragrance lasts for the entire day, so much so that my dear husband also noticed it in the evening. If you are someone who doesn’t like jasmine scent, well then stay far far away from this shampoo or for that matter any Lush product. They contain essential oils and the scent of their products is very strong (The dear husband with a sensitive nose doesn’t even enter the Lush store). It does add a nice shine and gloss to my hair. My hair is squeaky clean and feels soft. It doesn’t feel harsh and still cleans hair nicely. I used it both with a conditioner and without a conditioner. I recommend using a conditioner even though Lush says it’s a 2-in-1 bar as it does wonders when used with a conditioner.

It still cleans my hair well and makes it soft without a conditioner so if I am traveling I can just carry the shampoo bar and that’s good enough for an occasional wash. One of the first concerns I had is how long will the shampoo bar last. It isn’t exactly cheap and I didn’t want something that gets used up in 4-5 washes. Also, we are so used to using liquid shampoos that it was difficult to predict how long the bar will last. Lush claims it lasts 80 washes. So far, I have used it around 8-10 times and still have 90% of the bar intact, so I do think it will last long. With a tin, this bar is quite travel friendly. I also used it on oiled hair and had no problems getting oil out of my hair with this shampoo. Although I needed to use it more, which is the case with any shampoo so not a big issue.  The shampoo hasn’t caused any hair fall neither has it stopped my hair fall. That is not one of the claims so I am happy at least it hasn’t increased my hair fall. It just makes my hair soft, shiny, and my hair smells incredibly amazing.
