The Hartung Enterprise is made up of the following brands:Last year we had the opportunity to work for Sidd & Nisha, a couple that lives in Naperville, IL. They had many things they were looking for in their basement remodeling project. They wanted a wet bar, a relaxing space to watch movies, an extra area for their kids to play and a stage for Sidd to practice with his band mates.
Like a lot of Naperville basements that we see, they had a deep foundation pour, (meaning the foundation was dug deeper, giving you taller foundation walls and more head room), and it was a lookout basement so they had a lot of extra natural light. What made their basement unique, in terms of how the foundation was built, was the angled back wall and the turret in the back corner. When I saw this basement for the first time, I knew we were going to have fun designing the new space! Share this Image On Your Site < with this graphic.
As you will see from the pictures, Sidd & Nisha prefer a contemporary theme over the typical traditional look.
To achieve the look they were wanting required my staff & I to find some products that were different from the typical traditional Naperville basement. None of their requests were “over-the-top” so to speak. They were just things that were unique to Naperville. After all it’s all about creating a space that expresses our clients’ personality. Here at Sebring Services we are all about the details and giving the client what they want, so part of the fun of this project was the challenge of thinking outside of the box. We designed the basement with an open layout so the kids play area would be connected to the TV space. The wet bar is tucked away in its own space yet visible from the TV area & stage. With the deeper foundation walls as mentioned before, we were able to raise the ceiling in some areas making the basement level feel bigger. By matching doors & trim from the main level and using similar flooring & cabinetry from upstairs, the basement really became more of an extension of the main floor of the house.
The floor we installed is a prefinished 5″ wide, hand scraped, wood engineered floor made by, Urban Birch “Coffee” . We chose the engineered floor over the traditional hardwood floor because it may be installed over the concrete floor without installing a wood subfloor underneath of it. It does however still require a moisture barrier between the wood and concrete. The frameless cabinets include full overlay, flat panel textured laminate doors with a horizontal grain, soft close drawers and doors. To complete this contemporary wet bar look, we installed floating shelves so the client may display their liquor. We added LED strip lighting under the bottom shelf for accent lighting.
We installed 3 CM Hanstone “Aurora Snow” Quartz Countertops with a squared polished edge and a waterfall on the end of the peninsula. A waterfall is a countertop run vertically from the bottom of the main countertop to the floor. The countertops are carefully mitered together and when you use a stone with a lot of movement the veining runs across the top and down to the floor creating a “waterfall” effect. The plumbing selections include a Brizo Solna Single Handle Pull-down Kitchen Faucet and a Moen 1800 Series stainless steel 18 gauge single bowl sink. The appliances are Stainless Steel, U-Line Wine Captain 3000 Series Stainless Steel & 3000 Series Beverage Center.
For Sidd & his band, we built a two level stage and installed 2-1/4″ red oak hardwood flooring and stained it to match the prefinished engineered floor. To complete the stage, we added a custom curved stair nosing and LED strip lighting under the edge for a really cool effect. On the wall, we installed black 12″ x 24″ Modern Rectified Tile by Ceramic Tile Int. on the curved wall. We hand cut the tiles into 2-3/4″ wide pieces to form the curve of the wall. Can lights were installed to help light up the back of the stage. To the right of stage, you will notice a custom built niche which contains one of his treasured guitars. We actually built 3 of these niches. The guitars were the main focal point on that wall.
The bathroom was designed with Black 12″ x 24″ Modern Rectified Tile by Ceramic Tile Int.on the floor and 3″ x 12″ Lasalle Glass on the accent wall & shower walls. This large, 84″x42″custom shower was designed with a built in shower bench, shampoo niche and custom frameless glass shower doors. The toilet is a Kohler Persuade Curv Comfort Height two-piece elongated dual-flush toilet with top-mount actuator & slow close seat. The vanity & countertop sink combo is made by Wet Style and part of their “M” collection. This 36″x 10″ oak/wenge wall-mounted vanity comes with a true high gloss finish top. The wall mount lav faucet is made by Brizio, Odin series. The mirror we installed is a Silhouette Lighted Mirror. In lieu of installing the traditional vanity light over a framed mirror; we opted to for this electric mirror with a band of lights around the perimeter border enclosed in frosted glass. This mirror completed the slick clean contemporary look Sidd & Nisha were looking for.
