Probably exacerbated by temperature and/or humidity levels. If you know a bit about electronics, it might be work disassembling the GDO and having a poke around. If you are not handy then it might be time for a new GDO. Interference is also a possibility, but you'd need some pretty sophisticated equipment such as an RF spectrum analyzer to determine if this is the case.
