A local move is a move within the same city area. How much does a Local Move cost? Transportation services for local moves (including loading the truck at origin residence, transporting possessions to destination residence, and unloading at destination residence) are billed hourly. We follow the industry standard. Hours start when the truck leaves the warehouse and end based on the estimated arrival back at the warehouse. We don't include lunch breaks as billable hours. Call our office for an estimate based on your particular moving date. Tip: Using the services of a professional mover and doing some of the work yourself can be a successful and cost effective option. What does the hourly rate include?
For the vast majority of local moves, the rate is for a crew of three movers and a truck. For larger jobs it may be cost effective to pay a little extra and have more than three movers. The hourly rate includes all standard moving equipment (blankets, moving dollies, appliance dollies, piano skids, etc.), disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture. The hourly rate does not include packing services (placing small articles in boxes), insurance coverage for your possessions, and GST. Tip: If you are thinking of renting a van and moving yourself, take all cost factors into consideration. You might be surprised how much gas, equipment, food and beverages for your friends can add up. How many hours will it take? A "rule of thumb" is one and one half hours per furnished room in a household to load and unload. If applicable, also count basements, storage rooms, sheds, and garages. This is a guideline. There may be factors (such as weather, traffic, elevators, and access to house), which are outside of the control of movers and which will add time to a move.
You will be billed on the actual amount of billable hours. Tip: To reduce the billable hours, you may want to disassemble beds, large pieces of furniture, and take mirrors off of dressers. We are more than happy to perform these services but they do add time to your move. Tip: To reduce packing and moving time, lightweight clothing - sweaters, shirts, blouses, and lingerie – may be left in the drawers. Do not fill drawers with heavy items such as books, table linens, or sheets, which can damage the piece of furniture during transit. Be careful NOT to leave fragile items, money, jewelry, watches or other valuables in the drawers, or anything that might spill or leak. Basic transportation services for long distance moves are fundamentally based on the Proximity of the moving company to your home does not make a difference in the cost. Tip: Dispose of all flammables such as cleaning fluids, aerosol cans, fireworks and matches. Drain the fuel from your power mower and other machinery. Discard partly used containers of any substance that may leak. Empty the water from your steam iron. Our unpacking services are designed to provide the right kind of help, when you want it. Once you've arrived at your new home, you don't want a crew of movers fussing with the placement of dishes and linens. You want them to move you in, and then leave you to get yourself settled. So we'll unpack the cartons and place their contents on a table or countertop near their final resting place. This allows you to clean shelves and get things organized before you put them away. You tell us where things will go, and we'll unpack and place them nearby.
After unpacking is complete, we'll remove all the cartons and packing materials so you won't have to worry about disposing of them. Specialized crating is sometimes required for the safe protection of large, fragile breakables such as stained-glass windows, marble tabletops, and chandeliers. These items need the special care and attention that can only be provided by custom crating. Wooden crates are constructed by our crews to the exact specifications required to protect your delicate valuables. Be sure to point these items out to our moving consultant and ask for details about having them crated. Short & Long Term Containerized Storage (Goods containerized and handled by Carrier) How much does storage cost? Storage charges for this type of storage are based on weight of the goods stored (minimum weight may apply) and the length of time in storage. Minimum storage charge is for one month. If you deliver the goods to the warehouse the weight will be determined by either using the minimum weight or a cubed weight. (Cubic footage of goods to be stored times 7 lbs per cubic foot.) There are three basic components to total storage costs: transportation; and monthly storage charges. Vaughan's Moving Systems facilities are government approved and climate controlled. Do I have access to my possessions when in storage? Access to your possessions once in storage is by appointment only. We will however, charge you for our labour to access, open, unpack and repack the storage vault. Self Storage (Goods containerized by owner) Self storage of your goods in our storage vaults can be arranged. One or any number of our storage vaults will be provided for you to pack with the goods you plan to store. The vaults are then put away in our heated warehouse. Access to the vaults and your goods is by appointment only. A charge to retrieve the storage vault may apply.
