Home Guides Home Home Improvement Troubleshoot, Fix and Repair Measure and Calculate Do Queen Air Mattresses Use Full-Size Sheets? Air mattresses make camping out much softer, but also work for overnight guests. Queen-sized air mattresses require queen-size sheets, since full-size sheets just won't fit onto a queen-size mattress at all. Full-size sheets are designed to fit beds that measure 54 inches across the width and 75 inches down their length. Queen air-mattresses are longer than that by 3 to 5 inches, but most are also 6 inches wider than full-sized or double mattresses. All in the Dimensions When you buy sheets for a queen-sized air mattress, don't forget to measure the height and length of it. For example, a 9-inch high queen-size air mattress generally has the same dimensions as that of a standard queen mattress, but when the mattress doubles its height, it often loses 2 inches on length, dropping from the standard 80 inches to 78 inches.

No matter how you measure it, you need queen-size sheets for a queen-size air mattress. Not much according to Consumer Reports’ latest mattress tests. The Sleep Number c2 Bed matched the Sleep Number i8 bed Pillowtop, $3,000, in our tests for back and side support. Even better, we bought the Sleep Number c2 Bed on sale for $700. Here are the details plus news on other new mattresses in our tests. For our body-support tests we graph the spine’s natural curve on a range of test subjects. Then we evaluate back support by recording how thoroughly a mattress maintains that curve. For side support, we check whether the mattress keeps the spine relatively horizontal when a test subject lies on her side. The best mattresses have a good score or better for both.

In our tests, across various firmness settings, the Sleep Number c2 Bed and the more expensive Sleep Number i8 bed Pillowtop both delivered impressive side support and even better back support. And the c2 Bed was more stable, which means less annoying to your mate when you change sleep positions. When we took a closer look at the two mattresses we discovered that both were comprised of the same pair of identical air bladders—one for each side, so each partner can customize firmness. But with the Sleep Number c2 Bed, the foam layer on top was significantly thinner than the one you get with the i8 bed. While this difference wouldn’t show up in our body-support tests, you might notice a difference in overall comfort. That’s another reason to try out mattresses in the store before buying, as we routinely advise. Among adjustable air beds, we also tested the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Choice Supreme, at $3,200 the most expensive of the trio in our tests. Although it was impressive for back support, the Tempur-Pedic was an also-ran behind the two recommended Sleep Numbers.

But another Tempur-Pedic, the $1,200 Tempur-Pedic Tempur Simplicity, was among our top picks in foam mattresses. Once a mattress starts showing its age and is lumpy or sagging, we suggest replacing it even if it’s newer than the 10 years normally recommended. These medical air mattresses also play a pivotal role in preventing -- or treating -- serious ailments related to extended bed rest, such as pressure sores and skin shearing. When selecting an Air Hospital Bed from Vitality Medical, consider:The comprehensively equipped Air Hospital Beds sold by Vitality Medical provide caregivers with consistency and support positive patient outcomes. Hospital Air Mattresses can be a vital tool used by nursing staff, enabling them to help identify patients at risk and gauge the risk's severity by recognizing the six risk factors involved in preventive care. In addition to these benefits, those sleeping on Alternating Pressure Mattresses will wake refreshed.

This is because the continually changing air pressure eliminates tossing and turning while keeping blood and fluid flowing for enhanced circulation. Turning: Many models utilize air chambers and/or cylinders to laterally turn an occupant. This helps prevent or treat bedsores by taking pressue off of delicate/injured skin. Comfort is also increased through greater circulation and mucosal drainage. Select models, like Drive Medical's 10 Inch Lateral Rotation Mattress with on Demand Low Air Loss, can laterally transfer occupants from their backs to their sides by up to 40 degrees. Size: Medical Air Mattresses are right-sized for hospital bed frames, ensuring comfort and safety. Sizes vary from standard models that are 75 inches long x 32 inches wide, to extended or bariatric models that are up to 80 inches long and 42 inches wide, such as Drive Medical's Med-Aire PLUS Bariatric Alternating Pressure Low Air Loss Mattress System bed. Skin health: In addition to turning, Hospital Air Mattresses also have elements that promote skin health.

These include anti-shearing zones among the tops and bottom ends of the mattress that guard sensitive scapulas and heels from unnecessary friction. These zones are found in beds such as Span America's PressureGuard Turn Select Air Mattress System. Drive Medical's Mattress System with Pulsation True Low Air Loss features exclusive Pulsate Mode technology. This automatically reduces air flow every 30 seconds, getting blood flowing and reducing pressure to prevent bedsores formation. Safety: Several Air Mattresses have features, such as a static perimeter, that prevents entrapment between a mattress and bed rails. These include Med-Aire's PLUS DP Defined Perimeter Alternating Pressure Air Mattress Overlay Low Air Loss System 36 x 80 x 8. Transfer Capability: If you are a caregiver, consider a medical air mattress with a transfer mode that automatically inflates or deflates as needed to assist with daily activities. These models include the PressureGuard APM2 Mattress. For additional peace of mind, select units remain inflated during power outages to keep occupants supported.
