All legs are independently adjustable to 22 in. using the Fox Spring Lok Leg Mechanism and each has swivel feet. The 50 cm wide frame is ideal for the larger angler and the elasticated padded material creates a comfortable feel. The weight does restrict its roving applications, and extreme care needs to be taken when extending the legs fully as the ones on the review model could fall out, as did the leg mechanism which could result in loss.
Weighing in at just 2.4 kg and with a width of 47 cm this chair is extremely light but comes with no padding. It has absolutely no adjustment to the legs or the back, making it impractical for anything other than a level surface. When sitting you’re lent backwards and even with the armrest, which could have been a couple of inches longer without compromising its compact design, I found it difficult to get out of. It makes a fantastic guest chair. Back legs fold out when opening the chair so you cannot fish with them folded in. At 4.5 kg it isn’t the lightest chair but it is very comfortable. It has no leg adjustment to the rear and the front legs are angled acutely and, although extending to 17 in., limits its use to flat or gentle gradients. When fully extended, the legs on my model could come right out though, along with the mechanism which could get lost. The rear of the chair extends to the bottom of your shoulder blades, its fleece covering creates comfort and warmth as does the padding to the base which extend across its 48 cm width.
The arm rests create comfort and leverage when needed. A no frills chair weighing just 3 kg but does what a chair is designed to do – get you off the ground and provide some comfort – but its lack of adjustability on all legs limits its use to level ground. However, it does have self-levelling mud feet. It’s wide at 48 cm but the angle of the back is too acute for my liking. It has a high back but no padding and, although the legs lock into position, when carrying they are annoyingly loose. It does what it’s designed to do, is a ridiculous price, but it does have its limitations. It may weigh 4.9 kg but it makes up for this in strength having a weight capacity rating of 20 stone! All legs are fully and easily adjustable up to 17 in. with swivel feet. It also has plenty of padding for ultimate comfort and a high back that’s fully adjustable too, as well as a width of 47 cm. The legs click into position but I found the release mechanism fiddly. A top quality chair but its weight does restrict it as a roving chair.
A large range of accessories is available to attach to this chair, making it a very good all-rounder. At just 3.1 kg this is close to the perfect roving, lightweight chair, but the back legs are not adjustable and extend on opening the seat, which restricts its use on uneven ground. The front legs are fully adjustable to 17 in. and have swivel feet and the padding is ample creating a comfortable, luxurious feel. Measuring 47 cm wide, the rear of the chair comes midway up your back and the padded armrests help with leverage out of the chair as well as adding comfort. Nearly everything I would look for in a roving chair but at 4 kg I would have expected more features. A no frills chair, something many a roving angler will look for, with fully adjustable legs throughout to 17 in. and swivel feet. Measuring 48 cm wide, and with the back covering your shoulders, this chair unfortunately has no padding which drops its comfort and warmth, but is that important when you are on the move all day?
Reduce its weight by 1 kg and it would have been difficult to beat as a roving chair. Surprisingly this chair with all its features weighs just 4.2 kg. At 54 cm wide, with a strong durable frame and back covering your shoulders, this chair is capable of taking the heaviest of angler and is fully padded throughout for ultimate comfort. With large fully flexible mud feet and legs that easily adjust to 19 in., this chair is suitable on any surface. Complete with carrying strap and two Velcro strips that secures the chair in its folded position whilst carrying. Difficult to fault but probably too comfortable and luxurious for my style of roving, a drawback for me but a compliment to Nash! NOTE: All products tested January 2011.
