If not tell us hereA mother has demanded Asda recall 'dangerous' glass patio tables after the one she bought shattered in the sun.Terrie Moyles from Watford, Hertfordshire, was stunned when her £120 set suddenly exploded in to a 'million pieces' leaving shards of jagged glass all over her garden. And when the 46-year-old called the supermarket chain to complain she was told she would have to return the table herself as it was too dangerous for their delivery drivers. Terrie Moyles was stunned when her set suddenly exploded in to a 'million pieces' leaving shards of jagged glass all over her garden (pictured)This is just the latest in a string of similar incidents dating back to last year involving Asda's 'Miami' bestselling patio set with square black glass table and matching chairs.Despite this the supermarket giants are still selling the glass table with no warning to customers.Ms Moyles said she and eight-year-old daughter, Hollie, had popped inside for lunch when they heard a loud bang from their garden.

They ran outside to find their new glass table was in hundreds of pieces with jagged edges sticking out of the table frame.Ms Moyles insisted Asda should recall the product. She said: 'We ran back outside and saw the table - it had exploded into a million pieces and there was glass everywhere.'We were both so shocked, and Hollie was upset too. We had only just been out there when it happened.'I rang ASDA because as a mum I was worried this might happen to another child. I didn't want compensation or anything, I just wanted them to look into it before it happened again and a child - or anyone - was seriously hurt.'At first Ms Moyles was told it was a one-off - but after a number of phone calls she was stunned to be told this was not the first time it had happened. She was repeatedly asked to return the table herself despite it having large shards of glass sticking from it, and said that delivery workers would not be able to collect it because of the injury risk. Ms Moyles and her eight-year-old daughter Hollie (pictured) heard a huge bang as they walked inside for lunch

Engineer John Hall said he believes the problem with the table is a design fault causing 'excessive thermal expansion' Ms Moyes said when she bought the table two Asda employees also told her not to worry about needing to return the table because the glass was 'shatter-proof'.Ms Moyles said: 'I'm gobsmacked that nobody took this seriously. I was passed from worker to worker who all said the same thing - to take it back and get my refund, but the table wouldn't even fit in my car.'When it happened I was sure I'd read about it before - so I Googled it and one of the first results was about an Asda table shattering in the heat. I also approached my PTA group, and a parent there said it had happened to them too.'Engineer John Hall said he believes the problem with the table is a design fault causing 'excessive thermal expansion'He said: 'Looking at this it appears that when the glass is exposed to prolonged sunshine it expands at a faster rate than the metal frame that encloses it putting the glass under extreme tension until it shatters.

The family were shocked when the Asda Miami patio set (pictured) they had bought shattered - and demand the supermarket recalls the product'I believe the problem is caused by a design flaw where not enough tolerance is left to allow for the glass to expand in direct sunlight''This is made worse because the glass is black causing it to absorb more heat than clear glass would.''Theoretically making the glass slightly smaller or the metal frame bigger would give more room for movement and prevent this from happening'Carla Houghton from Southport had a similar incident when her Asda 'Miami' table shattered during a family barbeque last year. The 38-year old mother of two said she couldn't believe the supermarket was still selling the 'dangerous' tables to unwitting customers. She said: 'Someone will get seriously injured by one of these tables and it is just dangerous and irresponsible of Asda to keep on selling them even when they know what can happen'Asda spokesperson Natalie Chandler said: 'We would like to apologise to Ms Moyles for any upset caused.'
