This chart lists international mattress size measurements, including the USA, UK, Europe & Asia. Australia has seven commonly available mattress sizes. Single bed, Long Single, King Single, Double size, Queen size, King size and Super King size. Single: Ideal for children and teens. Single XL: Ideal for one person when space is at a premium. Also known as Long Single and Single Extra Long. King Single: Ideal for growing children, teens and mature single sleepers. Double: Cosy for two sleepers, roomy for one. Queen: Ideal for couples and the bed size most commonly sold.King: Becoming more and more popular because of its generous sleep area. Super King: Not very common as a mattress size, but more popular for bed linen. Created because people often buy a doona and doona cover one size bigger that their bed size. They vary by country of origin. The sizes in the UK and Ireland, other than the double, vary compared to the US sizes, being generally smaller.
The US queen corresponds to UK king, and king to super king. The European or continental basic sizes are similar to the UK but have a set length of 200 centimetres. The terms queen, king and super king are not used in continental Europe, and double refers to 140 cm or any higher width. Instead of these US/UK denominations, the bed width is given in centimetres. These dimensions are for the mattress—the actual bed frame will be a little bigger in order to fully encompass and support the mattress. The thickness of the mattress may vary considerably. Most UK bed sizes are available in various lengths between 75 and 87 inches (190–220 cm) in 3-inch (7.6 cm) increments Modern continental Europe practice is to refer to a bed by explicit width or size ("80 cm bed" or "80 × 200 cm bed"). Other sizes found include: In France, Spain and Mexico, the length of older beds is sometimes 190 centimetres instead of 200. In Italy, beds are classified by width: Most mattress sizes in the Netherlands are also available in extra long, meaning 220 cm instead of 200 cm.
In the Scandinavian countries, standards vary from one country to another. In Norway, these sizes are used: Beds/mattresses are often available also in extra long (220 cm or 87 in length). Some older beds are only 190 cm (75 in) long, while antique beds often are even shorter (since they in older times often slept in a reclined position rather than the close to supine position which is common today, and also, on average, people are taller now than they used to be). The following bed sizes are available in New Zealand:So we should all be curled up under a possum fur throw or possum fur blanket keeping warm this winter. Double Bed (mattress size 135x190cm) - this double bed possum fur blanket can also be used on a sofa as an extra large sofa throw but for a bed it is designed start at the edge of the pillows and stop at the foot of a Double sized bed and has no overlap. Finished possum blanket size is 135x162cm. Queen Bed (mattress size 150x203cm) - this queen bed possum fur blanket is designed start at the edge of the pillows and stop at the foot of a Queen sized bed and overlaps 15cm at the two sides left and right. Finished possum blanket size is 180x162cm. Queen Overlap (mattress size 150x203cm) – this larger queen bed possum fur blanket is designed to start at the edge of the pillows of a Queen sized bed and extends by 15cm at the foot and 35cm at the two sides left and right. Finished possum blanket size is 180x198cm. King Bed (mattress size 165x203cm) – this king bed throw is designed start at the edge of the pillows and stop at the foot of a King sized bed and overlaps 30cm at the two sides left and right.
