While Vauxhall has pledged to inspect its Zafira B models for free, the British carmaker today admitted it will soon run out of the car parts needed to replace potentially-faulty components.Mr Williams said he pulled over to the side of the road when he smelt burning as he was driving. He unbuckled his and his daughter's seatbelts but was unable to open the doors as the central locking system had jammed. 'I couldn't get her out at all,' he said. 'I was punching at the glass to try and break the window. 'I had hold of my daughter's hand because at one point the smoke was quite thick in the car. Luckily for us a fellow motorist had seen what was coming on and started trying to open the driver's door.'Between us we managed to get it open because I was smashing the glass and it wasn't breaking. I get quite emotional about it when I think about what could have happened.' Vauxhall is still investigating the cause of the problem, which is affecting some Zafira B vehicles made between 2005 and 2014.Spokesman Denis Chick said there are potential problems with the heating fan, pollen filter and resistor in cars that have been repaired using 'a non-Vauxhall approved component'.

Terrifying: Mr Williams and his daughter escaped shortly before the car, pictured, was engulfed in flamesAs part of their response, customers are being offered a free inspection of their vehicles and the resistor will be replaced free of charge.'The reason we're going to do that is we have found a number of cases where the resistor is a non-Vauxhall approved component, it's a copycat part,' Mr Chick explained last week. But in a statement to BBC Watchdog, the company admitted the supplying parts for a 'discontinued vehicle is complex' as the resistors are now needed in a much larger volume than before. It said it had shipped all of its existing resistors across its networks to support inspection appointments but said they needed 'procure materials' and 'start production again' on the parts. Damage: Mr Williams, from Swansea, is among more than 130 motorists who have also seen their cars burst into flames in a spate of unexplained incidents which are being investigated by the manufacturer

Under investigation: Vauxhall is looking into why so many of its cars, including Mr Williams', have set on fire It added the process would 'take time' but that it was 'working closely with the supplier to streamline the process'. This means the company does not have enough parts for all the vehicles expected to need an inspection. Mr Chick said last week around 225,000 models of the potentially-affected Zafira B were sold in the UK but the firm will have 'no idea' how many are at risk until further inquiries are made. Meanwhile, more than 10,000 Facebook users have joined a group called Vauxhall Zafira Car Fires, which has been inundated with images of flaming vehicles and terrified drivers wondering whether their car is next. Most of the drivers whose cars caught fire said the problem began with black smoke pouring from the car's glovebox. Spontaneous: Facebook user Carl Claypole, from Abergele, North Wales, posted this image of a flaming Zafira Fire at night: Jayne Clarke, from Salford, Greater Manchester, shared this image of a burning ZaifraWithin minutes the cars were fully on fire, ending up as burned-out shells at the side of the road.
