It's really growing and it's cool to be a part of. My opinion of Sterling has improved. Cons A new building would be great! Advice to Management You're doing something right. Sep 29, 2016 I worked at Sterling Payment Technologies (Less than a year) Pros Starting off with the pros of Sterling- the recruiter that hired me is TOP NOTCH.

She is sharp, dynamic and professional. There is not one person that has gone through the hiring process that HASN’T raved about her.  Her energy is infectious and welcoming.   Sterling, take note- you need more of what your recruiter brings to the table, not only personally but you need to fix the problem areas that undo all of their work and effort in getting talent in the door. The other pro was my direct report, who is one of the most positive, pleasant and hardworking individuals that I have ever had the pleasure to work with.  One of their traits that needs to be recognized is their loyalty to the company and our department despite failed management.  Not only did they survive managers that were condescending and used abusive language which I was able to witness within 3 weeks of coming onboard but also survived my fickleness towards a company that did not hold people accountable for such actions.  This is where Sterling needs to stop the bleeding- put people in place that belong in management and understand their impact to company culture and employee retention otherwise it will be a domino effect.

Cons Unfortunately, I wish that the pros outweighed the cons.  Let me start off by stating that I think Sterling could be a fantastic company if they honed in on what should be their most important asset: their people. After 90 days of being employed by Sterling, I’ve made quite a few observations;  their lack of culture, true company values and ethical leadership practices are ultimately what will lead to their demise .  If you read the other Glassdoor reviews, the message that is congruent throughout is that Sterling has potential but there is a lot of change that needs to happen in order for them to attract and retain the talent that they hire.As far as cons, there the usual pain points that come with a smaller company- Benefits are costly, PTO policy and work/life balance is outdated compared to most major companies, lack of tools/technology in keeping people productive and working ‘smarter not harder’ is both challenging and frustrating, not to mention the environment/facilities of the building isn’t the best.

Granted, its an old building but some floors have strong smells of mildew, there was a problem with ants (that I was bitten by) and it’s a gamble on whether the elevators will be in operation. Mind you, these traits could be overlooked and wouldn’t stand out quite as much if there were solid examples of positive leadership within the organization.  The only thing that I have been witness to in a short amount of time is that leadership is allowed to be abusive, condescending and there doesn't appear to be any corrective action for habitual offenders- and it’s not just in one given area, its scattered throughout the company.   In addressing  such issues, the responses that I’ve received is ‘that’s how they are’  or ‘they have a reputation for being that way’ and it’s swept under the rug.  The reason I’m leaving is the exact same reason these “leaders” are staying here.  Nobody cares to correct the problem, therefore allowing talent to walk out the door.

Advice to Management TAKE ACTION. Do not continue to sweep inexcusable behavior under the rug. You are wasting the time of your HR department in having to recruit potential candidates that will have to replace within months of hire. You are aware of those in leadership positions that have 'reputations' for being difficult to work yet they continue to poison the well. The community relies on everyone sharing – Add Anonymous Review Sep 6, 2016 I have been working at Sterling Payment Technologies full-time (Less than a year) Pros - Excellent work environment- Open communication- Lots of collaboration between departments- Everyone is working toward similar goals- Employees are friendly and encourage teamwork- a growing company with lots of potential Cons No negative comments at this time. Aug 30, 2016 Pros - Growing company- great opportunity for EMV- remote positions available for BDE's Cons - Not committed to 401K match- Terrible HR person- Unfair Pay for same roles (other BDE made a lot more than me, same hire date) Advice to Management - fire your HR person- negotiate wages fairly and evenly Jul 9, 2016 I worked at Sterling Payment Technologies (More than a year) Pros - Growing/Small company atmosphere- Great training- Average pay for position Cons - Has some hurdles

to overcome as they are growing- Could improve on structuring- Some favoritism but minor Advice to Management - Could improve interdepartmental communications to grow even further Jul 7, 2016 Pros So far this company has been very accommodating. The support for learning the industry has been great at almost every level. Cons More windows would be nice. Jun 1, 2016 Helpful (2) I worked at Sterling Payment Technologies (More than a year) Pros Having the ability to take time-off was great. You start off with a nice VAC/PTO package. You earn (4) PTO hours a month and the hours can roll-over into the next year. Cons In order to grow within the company...you have to be in good with some of the "Big Wigs". The company is small...but try to act big. They sell you on the whole small company "love song" and don't practice what they preach. There's really not to many departments to grow into for career growth. If you have a problem...don't take it to HR, the whole company will know about it...by the end of the day!

The salaries don't match the industry pay scale for the positions/titles. Advice to Management Advice to the CEO....put in place better individuals to manage your departments. The management team (including Directors) is like serving under an Immoral Cult! Your company is loosing good employees, because of those that have been placed in management positions. Take some time out to listen to what the non-exempt employees have to say about working at Sterling. You'll be surprised at what you hear. Apr 22, 2016 Helpful (1) I have been working at Sterling Payment Technologies full-time (More than 5 years) Pros Growth Opportunity to ambitious and hard workingFun environment with good peopleSmall company feelLow turnover rate in most positionsGrowing company Cons Sterling is a smaller company so you have the cons of most small companies, salaries are comparable to small company pay scales, benefits are not the most competitive (but expected) and some of your resources are limited because of size.

Advice to Management most of the management team is strong and truly cares about their employees. It's a great small company feel and it's something that should be kept as Sterling grows. Communication is important but not always top of mind, better communication would be theonly recommendation as a whole. May 6, 2016 Helpful (3) I have been working at Sterling Payment Technologies full-time (Less than a year) Pros Lots of front line workers wanting to make a contribution to the company. They have a very diverse group of employees at the entry to middle management level. Cons They have managers with huge egos who are resistant to change. They appear to sabotage one another or get some sort of enjoyment watching other groups fail without their support or cooperation. Several have been successful in chasing off others they view as a threat which only cements their position as a single point of failure. The tend not to document what they know and somehow that seems acceptable. Advice to Management Redirect the energy you place on making sure people are "in their seat" by 8AM (exact words used) toward what they produce and contribute to the company's strategic goals.
