Wayfair Just Launched a Furniture Line Geared Toward City-Dwellers So, you just got a new apartment! Except for the rent (which will be high) and the broker fee and the security deposit. Oh, and you probably owe last month's rent, too. Suffice to say, living in Boston is expensive. Which isn't to say anything about actually furnishing the place. Enter Wayfair, one of the world's largest home furnishers headquartered right here in Massachusetts, which Tuesday launched six new exclusive home brands, each of which, they say, offers a "distinctive look in home furnishings and décor."“With today’s launch of six new exclusive brands, we are building on our commitment to making it easier than ever for shoppers to find exactly what they want for their homes – original looks in furniture and décor across every style and budget.” The brand names are all wicked trendy sounding, things like Lark Manor, Mercury Row and Breakwater Bay. But one, in particular – Zipcode Design – stood out to me: It's the only one of the mix that's geared specifically toward the city-dweller.
"Zipcode Design was created for smaller spaces that wanted to live large with current styles," Alex Bowman, senior manager of brands, told me. "At Wayfair, we don’t want our customers to have to sacrifice style when decorating – no matter the size of their home. Most of the product even ships flat- making it easy to carry upstairs or assemble in smaller rooms." Essentially, this line is high on style while putting small spaces top of mind. "The comforts of home shouldn’t be limited by space," said Bowman. "We added in a healthy dose of function, too. Storage is something everyone needs and Zipcode has plenty of cabinets, shelves and media centers to tame the clutter." The prices seem pretty solid, too. Sure, you could scavenge something suspect from Craigslist, but the satisfaction of buying a new piece of furniture is tough to beat, especially if it's a piece you expect to hold on to for a while.
