A day-old baby boy was abandoned outside a church in a dirty pram with his umbilical cord still attached. The dark-haired baby was found near St Agnes Catholic Church in Los Angeles at around 12.30pm on Tuesday by a father and his two children, according to reports. Police, who are now searching for the baby's mother, think the child could have been left in the street overnight. The tiny baby, which had a shock of dark hair, was wrapped up in a blanket covered with little yellow elephants. The child has now been taken to a hospital. Alex Diaz spotted the stroller on Monday and decided to investigate when he noticed it again the following day, KTLA reported. "Something inside me just told me to check," he told the TV station. According to Mr Diaz, the newborn was wearing new pyjamas and covered in sweat. He asked why the parents had abandoned the baby so close to the church without bothering to ring the bell to alert anyone. He said: “You took your time to dress him up, but you couldn’t take your time to take him somewhere safe.
You just left him out on the street — threw him out like trash. Can’t do that to a baby.” Police said they want to make sure the baby's mother is safe and find out why the newborn was abandoned on the street.
