Chantelle Bartlett was being pushed along in the £49.99 buggy when the frame snapped in two.Her fingers got caught in the metalwork as it collapsed - severing a third of her ring finger and breaking her thumb. 'Maimed for life': Chantelle Bartlett lost her finger after the pushchair collapsed under her (pictured with her mother Beckie Yates and father Matthew Bartlett) The lost digit was never found so doctors were unable to re-attached it.Her outraged mother Beckie Yates, 24, said it was the second faulty model of the pram she has received from Mothercare in just six weeks. The mother-of-two has now demanded the company recall all of its 'Fifi and the Flowertots' strollers - or she will launch legal action.'I can't believe that Mothercare are still selling this pram,' she said. 'It has maimed my daughter for life and is clearly not safe to be on sale.'We bought the same model at the start of December but within in a few weeks it had begun to fall apart so we took it back to the store and asked for a different model.'But despite our protests they wouldn't exchange it for anything other that the same one - and now my daughter has suffered this terrible injury.'It's a disgrace - if they don't
withdraw the pram from the store I will be taking this matter to court. I don't want another little child to suffer like my daughter has.' Mother-of-two Beckie Yates has demanded Mothercare recall all of its 'Fifi and the Flowertots' strollers - or she will launch legal action The horror unfolded as Chantelle enjoyed a shopping trip in her home town of Swindon, Wilts., with her mum and aunt Danielle Bartlett last week.As Beckie lifted the pink stroller's front wheels to mount a kerb the entire unit collapsed in on itself. The impact sliced off the end of the fourth finger of Chantelle's left hand while breaking and dislocating her left-hand thumb.Beckie - who is separated from Chantelle's father Matthew Bartlett, 20 - said: 'I lifted the buggy up onto the kerb and it just snapped shut and Chantelle was screaming.'I saw her left hand was trapped and got it out of the pushchair when a load of blood from her right hand flicked up at me. I just started crying.'Beckie raced Chantelle into a nearby bus station and - with the help of staff - administered first aid to stem the blood.
The tot was rushed to Great Western Hospital in Swindon and taken into surgery for a minor operation to repair her dislocated and broken thumb.Chantelle is now recovering at home with her mum and six-year-old sister Sofie. Her grandmother Karen Price, 41, said she was disgusted that Mothercare had not already removed the buggy from the store. She said: 'This is the second buggy we've had a problem with - they Mothercare seemed happy to just ignore the issue.'They said that its frame may have bent because of my bags hanging off the back, but I have had a few buggies over the years and I don't do that.'Chantelle is three but the buggy is supposed to be suitable for children aged six months and up. If it collapsed on one of them it could take off their little hands - or worse.' Mothercare is investigating the accident but said the model of stroller is a tried and tested design with no reports of problems.A spokeswoman said: 'We approach any issue relating to safety and quality with the utmost concern and we are taking Ms Yates's distressing experience very seriously with an investigation already under way.'We continue to have confidence in the fundamental design and quality of our strollers and, in common with all our products, they are manufactured to stringent European quality standards.'Additionally, our suppliers conduct their own quality and safety tests
