I plan to leave in one month and go hitchhiking all around Australia. (I'm a Swedish guy living in Perth at the moment.)I plan to go south-east to start with, then follow the coast all around. I also want to do a trip to Alice Springs from Cairns and so on, nothing is set in stone. I'll just go wherever the road takes me.Being a guy with quite a lot of previous hitchhiking experience I know it will happen that I get stuck in the middle of nowhere along the road and have to spend the night there. Just wondering, what you would recommend for this?Back home a sleeping bag and foam mattress would do the trick, but in Australia you have dangerous mosquitoes, snakes, spiders and so on which could crawl into a open sleeping bag. But hitchhiking I wanna carry as little baggage as possible and those swags and some of the tents just look to big.
What would you recommend?Response to: Hitchhiking around Oz—is just a sleeping bag and foam mattress enough?Hi Simon,I would get a small mosquito dome and a cover for it and then I'd probably never use it. But if you don't get it you will get stuck in some mosquito infested swamp and get rained on for days etc. In my experience a sleeping bag and foam mattress is enough on the road. But you won't be on the road all the time, will you? I used to carry a little tent as well. I used it when I stopped in one place for longer, never when on the road.Today I use a mosquito dome. They don't weigh much and I just hate having mosquitoes buzzing around my ears at night. And if you get a fly for it, too, you have rain protection as well. Getting caught out in rain without a cover is the worst thing I can think of.Don't worry about the snakes and spiders. If you can find something small and light weight, take it. If you don't, take your chances. That's how I'd approach it :-). Return to Outback Australia Travel Guide home page

Sleeping on a premium memory foam mattress for the first time can sometimes offer an unfamiliar experience, especially if you’re conditioned to the feel of a sprung mattress. That’s because the way that memory foam and sprung surfaces provide support to the body is completely different. We’re confident that the body cradling, pressure-relieving performance of the Ergoflex™ delivers a superior level of comfort and support for the best night’s sleep, but we appreciate that the transitional period can occasionally take a little time for some people. So, we ask that you try your new mattress for 30 days before making a decision. This gives your body the time to adjust to the way that memory foam performs, and allows the mattress to suitably conform to your body as well. The vast majority of people trying memory foam for the first time become accustomed to the feel of the mattress within that period and will be sleeping easy in no time. However, if you find that you’re not getting along with the mattress after that time then that’s fine too – we’ll collect it absolutely free of charge from most locations across Australia.
If you decide that your mattress isn't for you, simply let us know and we’ll do the rest. Here's how it works: The 30-day trial period starts from the day your mattress is delivered. Should you have any hesitation about the suitability of your mattress we ask you to contact us at anytime during the 30-days. Your mattress does not have to be returned to us by day 30, you just need to instigate communication with us within this time. We also request that you try your new mattress for the full 30 days before making a decision or returning. A small number of people take a little more time than others to adapt to their new sleeping surface. At the end of the 30-day trial period we discuss how you would like to proceed. Most of our customers adjust to their mattress during this time, but a small number choose to return. Indeed, some customers ask for an extension to their trial period and we are more than happy to oblige in this instance. Should you choose to return your mattress, we manage the entire process.
All mattresses are collected and returned to our location within 7-14 business days. Upon receipt we refund the credit card you purchased with, within 24hrs. The 30-day home trial and free return service is limited to one return per household. Returned mattresses must be in their original condition, and photographic evidence may be required before a collection can be processed. Any mattress that is returned in a noticeably damaged or soiled state may not be processed. Delivery and returning a mattress is free from all locations in NSW, VIC, ACT and SA as well as the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Darwin, Perth and most of Tasmania. Unfortunately we’re not able to offer this service to regional WA, regional NT, far north QLD, regional TAS, outlying islands, Pacific islands, New Zealand, Asia or Dubai. If there is a delivery fee to your address then there will be a fee for returning. Enter your postcode above to check for any fees associated with delivery.
If there are no fees for delivery, returning a mattress is free. If there are fees contact us directly for detailed return costs. The free return service is subject to the customer reasonably repackaging the full-sized mattress (in packaging that we’ll supply when you begin the return process), and assisting the courier collecting the item. The 30-day home trial and free returns service is not available to any business or commercial entity, including but not limited to the hospitality industry, landlords or any party with associations to any company in the mattress and/or bedding industry. We also reserve the right to decline the service should we reasonably suspect that the offer is being abused. The 30-day home trial and free return service is limited to the Ergoflex™ mattress range, and does not include pillows or mattress protectors. The return period for pillows and protectors is 14 days, however we cannot accept protector returns once the protector has been opened, for hygiene reasons.
