Can’t Connect to Linksys Extender? Here’s the Fix!

Extender Linksys Setup

About Linksys Wi-Fi Range Extender

Linksys is a device that enhances the range of an existing Wi-Fi network so that there are no dead spots. It is now one of the most popular electronic devices in the market. The main function of this extender is to amplify the signal it receives so that the network is available over a larger area.

One of the best things about this device is that it is available at a very affordable price range. This device is highly secured.

Linksys Extender Setup Guide

The advanced settings are configured via the setup webpage of Linksys. Sometimes, people may encounter certain problems while accessing the webpage during the Linksys Extender Setup. This may occur due to two main reasons. It may happen that no connection was established to the device. Another reason is that the range extender is wirelessly connected to the network but no internet connection is detected.

One solution for this problem is trying an alternate method to access the webpage. This involves accessing the Linksys Extender webpage with the help of the default IP address that is, 192.168.1.1.

The Linksys Extender Setup is not a complicated process, but sometimes few people may face certain issues or some technical errors may occur.

If you are unable to access the webpage with the default IP address as well then you can try the following:

  1. Check if your computer system is connected to the Linksys Extender’s Wi-Fi. For this, go to the computer’s wireless utility. In case you are not connected to the range extender’s Wi-Fi, then select the SSID on the list of the available networks. Then enter the password and connect.
  2. There is an indicator light which is present on the extender. This light shows the status of the extender. Check the indicator to see if the extender is connected to your network.
  3. Another thing that you can do is to disconnect the Linksys Range Extender from the external power supply and then reconnect it. After this process, you need to wait until the power LED on the device is stable.
  4. You can check the computer’s connectivity to the device. The connectivity between the computer and the range extender can be checked by a ping test. Obtain the IP address to ping the range extender. The default IP address is 192.168.1.1. if the extender is not configured yet. If this is not the case, you can find out the IP address of the extender through the DHCP Client Table on your router.
  5. At times, even all the above-mentioned steps do not help. If that happens with you, try to disable any security software on your computer before accessing the online setup page of your Linksys Range Extender.
  6. There is another solution to this, reset your device to the factory settings and repeat the setup process to configure all the settings. In this process, you will need to run the Setup CD again or manually set up your range extender. There is a reset button on the extender which you need to press and hold for about ten to fifteen seconds with a needle-like object. You will notice that the LED lights on the extender start blinking. Your device will then reset to the default setting. After the process is complete, you can try accessing the range extender’s web-based setup page.

Conclusion

One important thing to remember is that during the Linksys Extender Setup, if a dialog box asking for a username and password appears, then leave the username blank and type “admin” in the password. In some cases, you can use “admin” for both username and password.
