Just checking that there is no where else to preview it, as really want to try and see footage (complete with transisitions etc) before burning to disc without the slowness/jerkiness ..Novice Member.Novice Member.Some people swear by it others have sworn at it and gone back to 10.5.Sorry to be a real pain, but could someone kindly explain to me what background rendering does exactly - and how much difference this makes to the actual rendering process when you come to burn to disc.Just getting to grips with Pinnacle Studio 10+ (version 10.6) which came as part of the titanium edition pack.Distinguished Member.Opinions expressed by myself are not necessarily those of AV Forums..or even mine!The 10.7 patch made my copy more stable so it should do the same for you. the only problem with Studio is that it works differently for everyone no matter what there system is, it's strange software.To really achieve the effect, the software has to "make " new video clips to correspond to the change ( bearing in mind that the original video remains on your hard drive unchanged and what you see on the time line are referenced. In rendering actual new video clips are made. By the time you finish the project, The whole thing has to be rendered to make your output. If the output is a DV AVI. that is all that is done. If it is another format ( mpeg) then encoding is also done. Before I throw it in the bin, can anyone please perhaps help me.Just a couple of really basic questions:-Say you have some footage that you want to, for example, apply the "old film" effect to. Is there any quick way of adding an effect like this to a large section of footage? I can't seem to work it out - at the moment, doing it scene by scene !Paul Cooksley.It should not be sluggish on preview. It Uses Liquids engine ( in part) and that does very good ( and quick background rendering) such that at the end encoding is very quick.Now to your question, this is how I do it although someone may know an easier way. First insert all the clips that you want to show as Old Film, insert the transitions and sound/music and text etc until you are happy with the finished Old Film effect video, but don't apply that effect yet. Now save it to disk as an AVI then load it into your full movie in progress project and then apply the Old Film FX to your imported clip.jaymac.1) Is it normal, once you launch the application, for it to take a little while to load. Once you re happy with the footage,( section/ sections) Make a duplicate of your project Project A being the original Project B the duplicate Then remove any footage not getting the film look from B, Make movie ( render it to a into a DV AVI. then save it on your HDD. reopen project A and substitute the newly rendered AVI for the clips , then do your effect. It gives you a percentage count, but seems to take a little while (maybe 30 seconds or so) .I have been using Pinnacle Studio for about 3 years now, it has always been a bug ridden program, but Studio 10 is probably the least buggy that Pinnacle have ever produced, I would suggest that you download the latest patch which is 10.7 as this has got to be the most stable patch that Pinnacle have ever released.I see you are "getting on with Studio then ?? Im not sure you can do a global effect to a large chunk of footage. But I seem to recall that if you work in timeline view you can select groups of clips :What you can do with them Im not too sure as of now I will try it later today and see.Paul Cooksley.With the 10.7 patch I don't get any jerkiness in review and it loads up fairly quickly, takes about 10 seconds, I have tried Adobe Premiere Pro 2 but that is difficult to use so I am sticking with Studio 10.Just getting to grips with Pinnacle Studio 10+ (version 10.6) which came as part of the titanium edition pack.Opinions expressed by myself are not necessarily those of AV Forums..or even mine!Any help appreciated.PS :The poster above and I were doing simultaneously hence similarities but My suggested work about assumes youve finished the project and then want to use a selected part or parts otherwise the advice is similar.And ..yes the way you describe previewing is the right way; You can even preview in full screen mode or on an external monitor.What you describe is "normal " but experiment with background rendering turned on and off and avoid previewing in full screen.Distinguished Member.10.7 seems to be a mixed bag.Background rendering : When you apply an effect , transition ,title over existing video ie( an edit other than simple trim), You see a preview of what youve done . This is in effect the software simulating the effect as no real changes have taken place on the footage.I turned off the background rendering feature, and found that this does now make the preview playback perfect. Weird, as I thought my machine would be able to cope adequately with that running. My machine is Windows XP Media Centre, 3.2ghz dual core Intel processor, 2gb ram, 400gb hdd - not too sure what the graphics card is, how do I find this info - and does it make a difference to playback at all? As I say, once burned to disc it is all fine.Any help appreciated.I preview using a second monitor in full screen before I send to DVD but if you don't have a second monitor then, yes, preview it top right, but click on the timeline first, if you don't it will preview one of the highlighted clips selected in the top left window. also try the following if you're still getting jerkiness, turn off Hardware rendering and or background rendering in the options menu, this only applies if you do not have a powerfull video card i.e ATI, Nvidia 256Mb or higher.Just going back to an earlier point, the patch (10.7?), which I guess you obviously get from Pinnacles Website, does this generally make it more stable?geomuss.Pinnacle Studio 10+ keeps loosing sound completely during previewing clips you've captured or put into the timeline etc. Audio is not there at all ! It's definately not just "muted" or anything (or not that I can see) and one minute audio is there - the next, you can say, add a title or something and I cannot get either the original audio to play or any music that I've added - the standard sound effects don't have any sound either (weirdly smartsound does still work)Opinions expressed by myself are not necessarily those of AV Forums..or even mine!Background rendering seeks to use the CPU and GPU ( graphics card) to do this rendering ( in the background ) as you go along in order to give you real rendered effects ( not just a preview) and As such by the time you finish the edit , because the project had been rendered "piece meal" along the way outputting time will be very cut down. ( in theory) This process happens very efficiently in Liquid Edition 6 and Avid Liquid 7.
