Hang Dieu comprises a strange melee of stores. Running north from the six-way junction at Duong Thanh until it turns into Hang Ga, it sold cigarettes in the 19th century and, more recently, leather shoes and sandals. Neither of these wares are in evidence anymore and now I think of it as “bedding street”, in reference to the fact that it’s home to at least a dozen shops selling mattresses and bed linen. Some shops are only just wide enough for a double bed, but they sure do cram in the goods. If a nice set of flowery bedding, complete with love hearts and teddy bears, hasn’t made it onto your shopping list then don’t despair: Hang Dieu is also home to a range of other shops, restaurants and hotels which might press your buttons. At the southern end, Bun Bo Nam Bo (No. 67) is a well-known street kitchen selling just what it name suggests: southern noodles with beef. It’s a cramped, grimy spot — the floor covered with used napkins and the banana leaves used to wrap the pork nem that you can order as an addition to the noodles – but the food is delicious and cheap and it’s a great place to experience eating like the locals.

Both the sweet and the savoury are catered for as over the road, at number 76, is a shop selling che, the Vietnamese sweet snack or dessert, and other shops along the street sell Vietnamese tea, sweet fruits, cakes and candy. Or stop off at number 77 for nuoc mia or sugar cane juice. If none of this sounds like your cup of tea then help is at hand: BBQ Chicken has an outlet at the northern end of the street. The several clothes shops on Hang Dieu cater more to Vietnamese than Western figures, so certainly don’t go on in after the bun bo nam bo and the che. Two exceptions are Boo Skateshop, a store selling clothes and shoes in Western sizes at reasonable, if not cheap, prices; and Made in Vietnam, which sells seconds of named brands.Finallly, being quite central, Hang Dieu is also a good place to stay. Art Hotel and Hotel Rendezvous both get good reviews and are worth a look. Location map for Hang Dieu Like what you see? bed bedding mattress topper   (Add Tags) Why?    These guys advertise feather mattress toppers on their website. I have one of their feather pillows and it's divine. Would help if I included the link... your a star, thanks so much! On the website or did you call? I was thinking of buying one to take back to Australia! My viet friend called the number on the website... I got one at Dome - quilted, not really really padded but does the trick. Try to call 0913521515 at Feather Bedding Anh&Em, sure you will get the right feather bed topper at order. You can buy them at the Metropole too. Our second trip and as highlighted in earlier reviews some minor confusion when boarding. Our voucher stated train SE2 when we were actually travelling on SE4. Guards speak no English, but fortunately someone came to our help and gave us tickets albeit that they were issued in other people's names. However, all turned out ok. The carriages were swept and cleaning linen and food (pot noodle) and water provided.

Best part of the trip from HCMC to Hanoi was the coastal route from Da Nang to Hue. Glad we have done the trip, but probably won't repeat it. The booking process itself with 12goasia. It was really easy and the staff were really helpful when changing our travel dates at law notice. The trip itself was less than great. We were in 2nd class sleeper on the very top bunk, where you couldn't sit up and was quite difficult to get up. It's a 6 bed room and at one stage had 12 people in the tiny room. The bedding wasn't very clean either. I would highly recommend getting first class or VIP if you can afford the extra. This is the first and probably the last time travelling on a train in Asia. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a wimp, I can take a little discomfort and chalk it up to experience. The biggest gripe is with Livitrans or 12GoAsia or maybe both. On arrival at the station we had our ticket checked by 2 different agents and we were still placed on the wrong train. Then, while on route, we received a call informing us of this information and we were told to get off in Hue.

We waited there for an hour and a half for the correct train. Definitely not the best sleep or the best food, but again, it's an Asian train that we wanted to experience and that is what happened. Enjoyed some beautiful countryside and a couple beers with a group of Vietnamese men who didn't speak a lick of English. (That was my highlight) This website was the most difficult of all the other bookings I made for our Vietnam trip at the end of last year. I had to ask the booking office to send me the tickets several times because they did not believe that I had not received the email confirming our booking. In the end, we received and all is well with the world. Comments on the Livitrains train trip - it was how people had described it, very shaky and not conducive to a good night's sleep. Lunch consisted of noodles in a cup. Good thing we brought along some snacks. Dinner was a compartmentalised plate with white rice, a tough piece of chicken and alien soup. those who have travelled on the train will know what I'm talking about.

Toilets are western-style, but that's where it ends. Bring your own toilet paper!!! All in all, I gave it three stars and that's being generous, but it was something we wanted to experience and it's been crossed off the bucket list. Not much better than the Hard sleeper. More space but the train and cabin were very dirty, especially compared to the one I had earlier. Two words - fly instead We boarded in Danang, both beds had dirty linen. Staff refused to give us new pillowcases and blankets, but we got new sheets after asking several times. The food cart guy scammed us for money, trying to charge us 4x the price for food compared to what we were charged on a previous trip. Haggled it down to 2x, but we ended up paying way more than we should have. Otherwise a nice way to see the countryside of Vietnam, just don't expect cleanliness or good service. The Sleeper was OK, howerver my trip that was supposed to take 12 hours actually took 30.5 hours. I am not kidding.

I boarded the train in Saigon at 9:00pm on a Monday and got off the train in Danang at 3:30am on Wednesday. On top of that, they offered train food that got me extremely sick. I never get sick and pride myself on that fact, but for some reason, the food they offered did not sit well at all. I ended up canceling my upcoming supposedly 15 hour trip from Danang to Hanoi and flying there via Vietjet for $24. The train did everything they could except get there on-time. I guess there was flooding, etc and it wasn't safe, but the 30.5 hours was just too much for me to handle. The price wasn't bad. If you have time and take your own food, then this could be a great way to see the countryside of Vietnam. Very clean, safe and comfortable, a much welcomed alternative to getting the bus. Beautiful views along the coast until the sun set. Only slight negative was that the air con was very cold! You do it for the experience, not because it's posh. The train departed on time, arrived 1/2 hour late, the rooms were comfortable and air conditioned with plenty of place for luggage.

There was a somewhat-cooling AC and quite firm mattress pads with blankets and pillow. The toilets are unmaintained and you should bring your own TP. Everyone stands on the seats and then blows the whole mess around the washroom with the hose. Everyone smokes in the area between cars, so try getting a berth in the middle. We had to pay a bribe for some reason to keep the bed at the top berth, but it was only $10 USD. (Of course that was 1/3 of a total fare.) The meal was tasty and cheap, but there was only one tiny bit of chicken and a whole bunch of back vertebrae that, with the small shrimp, proved inedible. Bring your own food and order the beer. A can of beer is about 90 cents! I loved the coffee cart...that guy had my number and gave me a little spike of Vietnamese coffee in with my 3-n-1 Nespresso mix. Getting off the train is dangerous. It depends on a rickety metal plate they put between the car and the platform. I heard expletives, turned around, and my husband had fallen through as it wasn't secured.

One thing I can say is that I have stories for a lifetime. We took a night sleeper train (1st class) from danang to Hanoi. Mattress was wonderful, slept like a log through the night. Washroom are super duper horrible. Pee are everywhere on the toilet bowl, the train rocks so does ur pee.Comfortable but not the washrooms. Great views from Da Nang to Hanoi once clear of Da Nang abd for 1st half we had cabin to ourselves - 1st class sleeper but hardly equates to 1st class generally! Hate to think what 2nd class is like! Hard mattress, noisy boggies underneath and slamming doors next door. Smelly toilets and unchanged pillow cases. But I still loved the wonderful views and the overall experience Train left on time and arrived on time. Staff were helpful finding our correct carriage and making sure we were boarding the correct train. AC worked fine, though dripped throughout the trip with condensation. We didn't get the free water that should have come with the sleeper seats, and even in 1st class the mattresses were hard as rocks, so there was no way to get comfortable throughout the night.

Train was on time, staff friendly and so were the cockroaches! Had an older train between HCMC and Danang and no sign of them but this much newer train I killed 4 before the sun went down! Booking was very easy and response very prompt. Clean sheet, quilt & pillow cover but no quilt...really needed one as too cold over night. No toilet paper whole trip and toilets could have been cleaned more regularly. Liquid soap dispensers rusty & soap contaminated. Staff friendly & helpful with heavy suitcase. Wifi would be good. AC was quite cool; food carts were regular, but unannounced and quite fast (so you may have to chase them a car length or two); bed was very comfortable (I like hard mattresses); and I found the steady rocking very soothing. A classic way to experience the scenery along the coastline. Rugged, rustic environment added to the communist-era throwback. Food was sub-par and overpriced for what you got. 70,000 for two small cups of stale rice with a couple slices of oily tofu and two cold, greasy sausages.
