The mattress covers work. The bed bugs have nothing to do with it. But the box spring cover is made of something very much like burlap, and the bugs can still live on it. We haven't determined whether or not they can get out. It does appear as though there are many trapped in there. However, if you cannot make sure that all the bed bugs are in there, it is pointless, because any left out of it, in the carpets or what not will burrow in and attach themselves to this cover. My advice is to purchase the mattress cover for both the box spring and the mattress since they are usually the same exact size.

QSince customer reviews say the box spring cover rips easily, can the mattress cover be used on the box spring? AYes, the mattress covers can be used on the box springs. The box springs can rip when used on the metal bed frames, and you do not take time to protect the edges of the frame where it rubs up against the box spring.
