Reese Witherspoon’s next project will be a “Wall Street comedy” called Opening Belle, after a book of the same name that hasn’t even hit bookstores yet. This is a bad title for a breezy, cute project about a mom just trying to work it in the soul-sucking world of high finance. Taking a survey of the Jezebel staff, we came up with several other projects for which Opening Belle would be a more appropriate title.A medical procedural drama about a dedicated and gusty doctor who successfully executes the first ever lung transplant on a Disney princess;A horror movie about a killer dismembering a Disney princess;“A very sweet girl takes a trip to the gynecologist.” - Kate DriesA movie about a woman named Belle having all sorts of vaginal experiences (think feature-length feel-good porn with a 70’s vibe);A shy woman named Belle learns to love non-pornographically;One half of indie-rock nap gods Belle & Sebastian becomes a kidney donor;“A porn set in a belltower.” - Anna MerlanSome asshole who studied abroad in Paris 15 years ago opens a wine bar in Brooklyn;“

It’s either extreme violence or vagina-related.” - Bobby Finger Besides, if we’re going to do a female-centric Wall Street comedy set in 2007, everybody knows the best and only acceptable title is Stock Market Gash. Fort Lauderdale, Fla., once known for spring-break revelers, is today more likely to draw business moguls seeking relief from state income taxes. Photo: Alexia Fodere for The Wall Street JournalA whip-smart and funny novel told by a former Wall Street insider who reveals what it's like for a working woman to balance love, ambition, and family in a world of glamorous excess, outrageous risk taking, and jaw-dropping sexism. In 2008, Isabelle - a self-made 30-something Wall Street star - appears to have it all: an Upper West Side apartment, three healthy children, a handsome husband, and a high-powered job. But her reality is something else. Her trading-desk work environment resembles a 1980s frat party, her husband feels employment is beneath him, and the bulk of childcare and homecare still falls in Belle's already full lap.

Enter Henry, the former college fiancé she never quite got over, now a hedge fund mogul. He becomes her largest client, and Belle gets to see the life she might have had with him. While Henry campaigns to win Belle back, the sexually harassed women in her office take action to improve their working conditions and recruit a wary Belle into a secret "glass ceiling club" whose goal is to mellow the cowboy banking culture and get equal pay for their work. All along, Belle can sense the financial markets heading toward their soon-to-be historic crash and that something has to give - and when it does, everything is going to change: her marriage, her career, her world, and her need to keep her colleagues' hands to themselves. From Maureen Sherry, a prize-winning writer and a former managing director on Wall Street (who never signed a nondisclosure agreement when she left), Opening Belle takes listeners into the adrenaline-fueled chaos of a Wall Street trading desk; and, ultimately, the heart of a woman who finds it easier to cook up millions at work than dinner at home.

Warner Bros. and Reese Witherspoon’s Pacific Standard are set to adapt Maureen Sherry Klinsky’s upcoming book OPENING BELLE. The novel, which will be published by Simon & Schuster later this year, is a comic take on the life of a woman juggling motherhood with a career on Wall Street. Set in 2007, she must deal with the impending financial crisis while raising three children. The novel is loosely based on Sherry’s real-life experience working as a managing director at Bear Stearns. Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea will produce for Standard, with Witherspoon likely looking to star. Jeanne Snow will oversee for Standard, while Julia Spiro and Chantal Nong will oversee for Warner. This is the latest in a series of options for Standard, with the company having secured Jessica Knoll’s Luckiest Girl Alive in April.

They will adapt the novel, which centers on a New York woman with a perfect life but a dark past, along with Lionsgate. The company also recently won the rights to Gayle Tzemach Lemmon’s book Ashley’s War with Fox 2000, in a heated auction. Last year, Witherspoon saw massive success as a producer on Gone Girl, which was based on the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name. Papandrea recently produced Wild and Hot Pursuit, both starring Witherspoon. Wild was based on Cheryl Strayed’s 2012 memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail and garnered Witherspoon a Best Actress Oscar nomination. Next up for Standard is sci-fi flick The Outliers, crime thriller The Invisible Woman, and Witherspoon-starring astronaut drama Pale Blue Dot. Spiro and Nong are currently overseeing production on the long-gestating A Star Is Born remake, and Nong is working on an adaptation of upcoming novel American Blood, both of which are set to star Bradley Cooper. —TO SEE ALL THE PROJECT DETAILS CLICK HERE—
