I have been planning to try selling my grandfather’s book on OLX. It’s a book of Kikuyu poems that he has written. I opened an account but for some reason I have not yet posted the ad. I wanted to see if OLX works for selling books because I am hoping (and praying and looking for money) to self publish my book this year. I think sometimes I am very old fashioned in how I approach technology. I love it but I prefer to wait until many have tried and tested then I can dip my feet in the water. Online shopping has grown over the last few years in Kenya which is made easier by the fact that you can pay by Mpesa. Nowadays also you can get stuff delivered to your doorstep. But people may be reluctant to buy online maybe because they are not sure if they will be conned or get exactly what they are asking for. I asked myself “what is the best way to find out if something works if you are not sure about going into it yourself?” I asked a couple of friends if they have used OLX.
Three of my friends had used it before. One of my best friends Ann apparently uses it to advertise her bouncing castle and kids entertainment. She says she has received a number of clients. Another of my friends Nelly used it to sell her Mpesa container (I didn’t know you could do that) and now she wants to sell her seats. It went well the only issue was verifying the legitimacy of the buyer which of course takes time because you don’t want to be conned. One of my rotary friends sold her TV on OLX and said she got a buyer very quickly. She did however say that she had a challenge deleting the picture after it was sold. It is still on the website so people keep calling her about it. Something OLX need to look into so that buyers don’t get inconvenienced after they have sold something. OlX has many categories for things to buy and sell. Take a look at their website and check it out for yourself. There are fantastic deals out there. But if you are like me and not quite sure whether the online shopping world is for you, it doesn’t hurt to just take a look.
Also ask around to your friends and colleagues to find out who has used the services and how the experience was. I guess it is time for me to get my feet wet. This book is a memoir of Vladimír Peták, who worked as programmer for Technical directorate of Ministry of Interior in the 80s. is no top secret information or StB officers' real names in the book, but it's still an interesting read. everyday life from an insider's point of view. The PDF of the book was availabile for free, so I downloaded it and started In the middle of the book I stumbled upon this excerpt:

So now, we know a few new things: Q: Why is the device called Rita instead of Brigita in the A: This is because all names in the book were changed for privacy Q: What did it look like? A: It was a custom-built single board computer with Zilog Z80 CPU. Its software was written in assembler and Turbo Pascal 2.0. the development, an Osborne 1 Q: Who voiced Brigita? A: Some lesser-known Czech RadioThis was in fact similar to a job for the public Q: Can we have Brigita source codes? A: Of course not! It was state secret back then. If you want to sell an item, you should simply submit the free advertisement on OLX website. It does not cost you at all. Its free for all. The item you would like to sell or buy may be anything like books, bikes, furniture, mobiles, electronics, fashion, kids items, services, real estate or job you are looking for or offering. My first thought or Idea to sell on OLXI was using a book which was of edition 2005. The book name was 'Word Power Made Easy' by Norman Lewis. The book is all about building English vocabulary from basics and historical point of view. The book is very famous for its content and English language study. As the book was very old but in a good condition, my wife asked me to sell it on OLX if possible and buy new book of same title and same author with latest edition. I have never tried anything before that on OLX to sell an item. Rather than throw it off or giving it to waste book collector, I tried to use my luck to sell that book on OLX.
How I sold a book on OLX?I first installed the OLX on my Android mobile phone (Moto G first generation). Immediately I registered there and tried to get used to the OLX application. I was asked to select my area location. Followings details is asked when you submit an advertisement at OLX. Category: One should select appropriate category of item like books, furniture, mobile, fashion, kids, services, job etcPhoto submission: One should submit a real photo of an item to get good response from buyers. Title and Description: The title and description give complete detail about the productContact information: One should submit mobile number so that one can directly contact with buyersAfter filling all above information, my first advertisement was published. I was exited to see the response. As I have set very less price for the book, within three hours of posting that advertisement, I got a chat message that someone is willing to buy the book. We chatted regarding the book and related stuffs.
After some price negotiation, we fixed up meeting location near my work place. As the ad was published in local area near to me, buyer agreed to meet me at my location. On very next day, we met at 6.00 pm, and the book was handed over to that person. This was the first time, I felt that OLX is really working for normal person like me !ConclusionI sold Word Power Made Easy book by Norwan Lewis on OLX within a day of posting on website via OLX App. Try to deal more on chat before fixing deal and meet the buyer.
