We are an award-winning country inn in the quintessential New England town of Henniker, New Hampshire. We offer 14 individually decorated , over five acres for your enjoyment,  at The Grazing Room, and warm hospitality. We sit on the scenic and historic Currier and Ives Byway. Since we are located in nearly the geographical center of New England, only 90 minutes north of Boston and 25 minutes from the Manchester airport, we are the perfect location for exploring the best of New England. Ask about our day-trip itineraries and packages that offer something rewarding for everyone.     An ECO retreat and Dining Destination. Colby Hill Inn caters to romantic couples, families, private meetings or events, people who are looking for outdoor recreation, and foodies who are seeking an innovative meal crafted from foods within our region.

Whatever your plans include during the day, you will certainly want to dine with us and locals in The Grazing Room. Bruce Barnes is a celebrated chef who has led all culinary operations at the World Bank in Washington, DC and owned two successful East Village restaurants. The Grazing Room is already receiving outstanding reviews and accolades for his expert culinary execution and varied menus. Our decisions are made with a focus on bringing the property to new heights in guest services and comfort, environmental sustainability, support to the community and local farmers, and investment in our staff. Upon arrival, one of the first things all guest want to do is to grab one of our freshly baked cookies and then meet our baby French Alpine goats Annabelle, Chloe, Gertrude and Lucy. A Message from Your Innkeepers Dear Friends: Arriving to Henniker exactly a year ago from Washington, D.C., we immediately fell in love with this historic property first built in 1797 with its five acres and barns dating back to the 1890s.

We are working hard to apply our skills to increase guest comforts, drive the restaurant to new heights and build the Inn’s brand and capacity as a country retreat. It’s truly an idyllic place and ideal for romantic escapes, planning retreats and special events.  In brief, we look to create a strong synergy between Colby Hill’s appeal as a country inn and becoming a popular dining destination. Any foodie would agree that good local foods are a draw to any place, and we are fortunate that New Hampshire has an abundance of great foods. It’s been truly exciting to start reaching out to local farmers, fishermen and other food producers over the last month. Our focus on local foods and beverages is a key pillar in our overall commitment to evolving into an eco-operated inn and restaurant (we like to say a “re-treat”). Our restaurant has been renamed The Grazing Room because the finest, freshest local ingredients bring the best tastes to the table; so, we hope you slowly enjoy every bite of our food.

Since our dining rooms provide an excellent view of our gardens, barns and goats, we furnished the dining room with tables crafted locally from a 1740s barn and commissioned a beautiful Rufus Porter-style mural for our rear dining room based upon an 1803 map of Henniker that included sketches of all town buildings and houses. We are constantly working on building a broad range of itineraries, services, and partnerships to allow guests to fully enjoy the fact that Henniker is perhaps one of the most centrally located towns to the best of New England, all within 90 minutes or less from the Inn. Whether you choose to get out on the lakes themselves or hike above them for a birds-eye view of the colorful displays, you can’t beat a fall getaway to the Lakes Region.  Book your stay at Lake Winnisquam’s only waterfront Bed and Breakfast, and experience a delightful fall in New Hampshire. Best Fall Foliage Displays It’s pretty hard to go wrong during the fall in the Lakes Region.  Everywhere you turn, you’ll be rewarded with dazzling displays of fiery reds and oranges, mixed with bright pops of yellows and greens. From the shores of our Lakefront Bed and Breakfast, you can enjoy these colorful displays without going far.  Stay close to the property, get out on the water, or get the best views by hiking up in the surrounding mountains.  Here are our favorite ways to experience the beautiful fall foliage season in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire: Get out on the water with Squam Lake Cruises. You’ll enjoy a comfortable 1 ½ hour boat tour around beautiful Squam Lake.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning fall foliage reflected into the still waters of the lakes.  You’ll also be treated to a tour of historic homes, scenic mountain views, and remarkable wildlife, including Loons. Hike the West Rattlesnake Mountain Trail.  Hiking a quick mile up this trail will treat you to some incredible views.  The trip up includes both stairs and plenty of rocks along the pathway, but it’s beyond worth it.  Views from the top include Squam Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee, as well as the fiery hillsides all around you.Take a cruise on the historic boat M/S Mount Washington around Lake Winnipesaukee, which in and of itself has been a tourist attraction for decades.  This boat has been in service since 1940, but the service has been around since 1872.  Though you’ll be on a crowded boat with about 1,250 other visitors in search of some spectacular fall foliage, the journey along the 21-mile long Lake Winnipesaukee is still worth every second. From spring through fall, the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad takes visitors on excursions around Lake Winnipesaukee.
