Window curtains are provided. If needed, towels, two sheets, and a pillowcase may be picked up at the Laundry Room in Dewey House. Pillows are available upon request to the Laundry Room. Every room has carpeting in it. Each dorm floor has a filtered water system to provide filtered tap water for drinking. For information on local shopping and services, see our Visitor Center. Deerfield Academy’s Campus Stores (Hitchcock House or the Athletic Store) also offer many items for sale from school supplies to personal care items, dorm supplies and decorations, athletic apparel, electronics and more.
The stores are well stocked and ready when students arrive in September. *Please limit lamps to two in number. Usually one is sufficient. The amount of clothing you bring depends on how often you do your laundry. Weekly laundry service can be arranged through E. & R. Laundry Service and community washing machines and dryers are also available in every dorm. Be sure to put enough money onto your debit card account in advance so that you won’t be caught short without cash. DO NOT bring large amounts of money with you. This innovative approach to learning has an integrated and theme based curriculum that continues throughout the Primary years. This program is based on National and State Standards combined with the best teaching practices. The curriculum features motivating, interdisciplinary activities with attention to learning styles, multiple intelligence and interests as well as abilities. It is individualized and differentiated so children can learn at their own pace. It is connected to students' experiences, talents and the real world so they develop a passion for learning. After a 6 week course of study, the students experience immersion week. Students will have out of classroom experiences through field trips, guest speakers and parent programs. These experiences will put their knowledge into practice. In this classroom, you will see children sitting in bean bag chairs or small tables as they collaborate on a project incorporating their writings & paintings, working alone at a table at their own level or sitting on the meeting rug listening to a story.
