By taking the time now to store food, water and other supplies, you can provide for your entire family in the event of an emergency. The following list is a guide of suggested items to have in your disaster preparedness kit at home. It is important that you check it every year and to resupply it after every use. Use this table as a checklist to ensure you are well prepared. Crank or battery-operated flashlight, with extra batteries
Battery-operated or crank radio Extra keys, for your house and car Cash in small bills Special needs items (i.e. medications, infant formula) Important family documents (i.e. copies of birth and marriage certificates, passports, licenses, wills, land deeds and insurance) A copy of your emergency plan It is important to store these supplies together in a sturdy and easy-to-carry bag, such as a backpack that can easily be used in an emergency situation. Be prepared to help yourself and your family if you are ever stuck in your vehicle for an extended period of time.
In addition to your emergency preparedness kit, it is recommended that you keep the following items in your car: Extra clothing and shoes Crank or battery operated flashlight, with extra batteries Jumper cable or batter pack Sand, salt or kitty litter Shovel and ice scraper British Columbians & Our Governments Initiatives, Plans & Strategies Freedom of Information (FOI) The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) enables the public to request and obtain copies of records held by B.C. government ministries or the Office of the Premier, when those records are not routinely available. Start with an informal request. Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and call the ministry that you believe holds the records you want. If you are unable to get copies of records through the informal route, you can make a formal request through FOIPPA. That request must be in writing. Once you have decided on the records you need, try to limit your request to those records.
