What it is: If you're looking for a bouncer that gives less stimulation, not more, this should be a top pick. Eschewing that "bright lights, big bouncer" feeling for a more ergonomic, low-key approach, the Babysitter Balance is shaped like a hammock to cradle your baby naturally. No lights, music, or vibration, just a toy bar attachment that's sold separately. Pros: This bouncer comes fully assembled, folds flat for easy travel, and (something we really like) has a simple, sophisticated look and many colors to choose from. What to watch out for: This bouncer is entirely baby-powered – it doesn't vibrate or rock on its own, which means it may not soothe some babies. What it is: This little bouncer has pretty much everything you could think of, including two-position recline, a removable toy bar, vibration, and an MP3 input so you can play your own tunes. And since the controls are on the back of the bouncer, you can modify the settings without disturbing your baby. It's very lightweight, so moving it from room to room is a breeze.

And although we're partial to the bee design (pictured), there's also a cute ladybug and a neutral yellow. What to watch out for: The fact that the seat cover can't be washed doesn't go over well with many parents. What it is: Like a lot of parents, we're fans of the cheerful animals on this best seller – though if monkeys aren't your thing, Fisher-Price has several similar bouncers with different looks. The dangling toys and light-up waterfall combine to stimulate your baby's developing senses and keep him occupied when you need a break. And when it's time to chill out, the music and vibration will soothe his nerves. What to watch out for: If you take full advantage of this bouncer, be prepared to change the four D batteries every two weeks. Also, some parents say the lights, toys, and waterfall combined are too loud and overstimulating. What it is: This is the most high-tech baby seat on the market, with five unique baby-calming motions (car ride, kangaroo, tree swing, rock-a-bye, and ocean wave) that you can speed up or slow down depending on your baby's mood.

The mamaRoo also connects to your MP3 player so you can choose your own music – or go with one of their five nature sounds. Don't worry, it plugs into the wall, so you won't need hundreds of batteries to run this seat. Plus, it looks great and comes in several colors. What to watch out for: It's heavy and a bit bulky, so don't expect to travel with this guy. Also, curious toddlers can pinch their fingers in the track the seat moves on. What it is: Wow. It's a bassinet, a stationary baby chair, and a vibrating, rocking seat! This product lives up to its 3-in-1 promise and can help you save space and money. When your baby's rubbing her eyes and is done playing with the light and music toy (included), push a button and the rocking seat converts to a baby bed with raised sides. When used as a chair, there are three reclining positions, and the frame easily switches from a rocking to a stable position. Plus, the 40-pound weight limit means you can use this for years. What to watch out for: It comes in just one color (stone).

Also, some parents say their babies can't rock well without help. What it is: For babies who need a lot of motion to settle down or sleep, this swing is a miracle worker. It features six speeds and two directions – side-to-side or front-to-back – so you can experiment to see what soothes your baby best. Plus, the motorized mobile (lambs and clouds that circle a mirror) really captures babies' attention. What to watch out for: Like most swings, this one has a large footprint, so make sure you've got enough room for it. Also, you'll need to stock up on D batteries – there's no plug-in. What it is: This bouncer wins innovation points for its ability to transform into a true sleeping spot for your baby. If your newborn starts snoozing, you can recline the bouncer to a flat position, carry it with you around the house using integrated handles, and even snap it into a coordinating daybed (sold separately). Other nice features: The bouncer's seat is shallow, which means it puts less pressure on babies' sensitive abdomens, which may help minimize spitting up.

And the included toy bar allows you to hang your own toys, instead of relying on a pre-chosen few. What to watch out for: The bouncer barely moves without (adult) help, some parents say. Plus, it's very expensive – and the coordinating daybed and sheet add another $260 to the price tag! What it is: Sleek and stylish, this is one chair you won't mind keeping in the living room. It was designed with modern parents in mind, with features like an MP3 hook-up so you can play your own tunes. Parents praise the LED lights on the arm, which can mesmerize babies. (The wooden arm also features built-in music and nature sounds and a charming bird toy.) Plus, the seat has three reclining positions and can fold flat for storage or travel. What to watch out for: The weight limit is a low 20 pounds, so some babies won't get a full year of use from this seat. Also, some parents say the sound quality is poor when using the MP3 hook-up.Skip to main content Skip to accessibility help £15 - £30  (5)

We also love how stylish and compact it is compared to a big bulky swing.

Tranquility for mom and baby I bought one for my grandchild, this marvel has bought mom many moments of quiet time. We got this in addition to the mamaRoo and our son loves both! I was initially not sure if we would need both, but he likes both, can sleep in both and it allows us to have one in each room we spend our time in, without having to move one back and forth. This is definitely more like a swing and I consider the mamaRoo to be more like a swing/bouncer combo. They both serve a different purpose and are very useful to soothe our baby. The rockaRoo takes up much less room than a traditional swing and is much lighter and easier to move. Perfect for soothing a colicky baby With a 1 year old and a brand new baby who was beyond colicky we were desperate to find something to help soothe our little guy when I had to help his big sister. We had a friend who had told us about the rockaRoo and how amazing it was. So we went out on a limb and bought it.

And my colicky baby was no more! He LOVES the soothing rocking motion of the rockaRoo and is always asleep within minutes of laying in it. And I love that I can plug my phone or iPod into it with Pandora set on a lullaby station. With our first baby we used a traditional swing, but he wasn't suuuuper into it. With this second baby we wanted to use something a little different, so when we got the rockaRoo we were so excited! And so was he. He loved to just hang out, but also in those first days he loved to sleep in it. The motion is the perfect speed right in the middle, but as he got bigger we pushed it a little faster. And on a side note- it's so easy on the eyes. This has become a must-have for us, and I can't wait to use it with our next little one,Overall review: happy mama, happy baby! Traditional infant swings are large and clunky. We believed swings would be better if they provided the back and forth gliding motion that babies love in a compact and modern design.
