I finally decided to paint them with a paint I have never used before, Benjamin Moore's Vintage Revival Shabby Chic Furniture Paint. The sandability of this paint is non existent. This project took me 3 times the amount of time that it would have with a chalk paint. Although the paint covers well and prep of the furniture before painting is minimal, if you are looking to distress your furniture after painting, do not use this paint.

So we ripped down all the old drywall and got some new drywall from the awesome, helpful folks at Consolidated Gypsum! My husband and brother in law are putting it up as we speak. We fell in love with the home, which was built in the late 70's, because it was still owned by the original owners and obviously well cared for.
