PROMPT: one of them says something that changes the mood completely

"it's getting late."

jake leans back on the couch and yawns. roger is next to him, carefully leaning on his shoulder, and there's a random show on the TV. neither are actually watching, and roger seems to be dozing off already.

he was always pretty obvious when it came to any kind of physical conditions. the second he got sleepy, it was noticeable. the second he got hungry, one could hear him complaining or already on his way for a little treat. pretty good for him, being an open book like that. with a household like this, everyone thought of his comfort.

"you don't wanna go to bed?" jake nudges roger a little, and the orange phone reacts with a little "eep". "we could always stay here, sure, but i don't think my back would appreciate it all that much."

roger sits down straighter and shrugs uncertainly. he doesn't like making decisions. it feels like he always makes the wrong one.

"whatever works best for you, i guess," he says quietly. "i don't mind either way."

jake shrugs back.

"i won't carry you to bed if you fall asleep here, just so you know. i'll plug you in and go. that is, unless you make up your mind."

roger shifts uncomfortably. he'd like to stay, sure, and with jake too. but if it's an inconvenience for him, then he'd rather not. they could go to either of their rooms — how comfortable their housemates would be with that? he wasn't sure. and if they wouldn't, would they even say?

that was a little too much variables. roger didn't like variables.

"i don't want you to go," he says after a couple of extremely long seconds. "but i don't want your back to hurt either."

"we could find a way to lay down comfortably enough for it not to."

"yeah, i guess..?"

jake sighs and pats him on the shoulder, standing up. roger follows him up and awaits for... something.

"i'll go get a blanket and tell harry to not wake us up," jake says. "and you think of how we should lay down." and then he leaves.

roger shifts from one leg to another and stares at the couch. he doesn't even understand what the problem is. it's a simple task. the simplest of tasks. the most simple of all the tasks ever tasked. and yet he feels so paralysed. well, he could just... lay straight. and then jake would lay on top of him. he's not that heavy, is he? that'd be the easiest way. and pressure atop is always nice. yeah, he should- they should try that.

yeah.

roger slowly sits back down on the couch, leaning on the armrest for a half-sitting position. then he hears a quiet "night, berry" and jake reappears in the living room with a big, dark-green blanket in hand.

"wanna keep the TV on?"

"some ambient noise," roger nods, and pats his lap. doubts fill his mind again. jake looks at him for a couple of seconds, then chuckles, then turns the volume a bit down and places himself inbetween roger's legs, back on his chest, then covers them both with the blanket to the best of his abilities.

roger hugs him around the waist and pulls him a bit closer to himself, and jake turns his phone to look at him, and their dials almost-

"oh wow, i didn't even notice how badly you smell of cigarettes."

jake freezes in his tracks.

"..."

"...the FUCK-"

"i didn't mean it-"

"oh you are NOT getting out of this one clementine,"

"nooo no no that's not what i wanted to say i'm so sorry!" roger hugs him tighter, but jake gets out of his grip and plops down on the opposite side of the couch. "nooo!!"

"that's what you get! no cigarette stench for you."

"come ba-ack!"

"shush! that's the best you're getting tonight."

"oh man..."

roger's shoulders visibly drop. well, their legs are still tangled, so it's not that bad? he sighs heavily and slides a bit lower, phone on the armrest.

"i still wish you a goodnight, though," jake says, getting the drop cord closer to them both.
"good night to you too..."

oh man.
