When: May 13 - 16, 2017 Where: Ag Arena, Penn State Campus The State College AAUW Used Book Sale, held at the Ag Arena on Penn State Campus, is one of the largest on the East Coast, attracting dealers and private patrons from as far away as Maine, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, New York and Ohio. Last year, over 8,000 people took advantage of the bargains offered during the 4-day sale. The reason for the sale’s popularity? Most importantly, books are priced to sell. In addition, they are culled throughout the year by volunteers who discard damaged, highlighted and out-of-date books, making this one of the “cleanest” sales around. Also, for our patrons’ convenience, books are sorted into more than 30 categories and are displayed on more than 250 tables with all titles available from the beginning of the sale. Children's, science, and hardbound fiction books are perennial best sellers. Throughout the year, books are donated by individuals and organizations from all around Centre County.

Volunteers cull, sort, price and pack the books, and more than 250 volunteers transport the books from our Donation Center to the Ag Arena and set them up for the sale. Day 1 &2: Regular Price Days Day 3: Half-Price Day Day 4: Bag Day (fill up a bag for a flat rate price) Following the mission of AAUW, which is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research, we give grants for specific projects to other non-profit organizations that support these same tenets: To assist courageous young women returning to finish a degree after their schooling was interrupted, the Simmons-Jansma Project Renew Grant was established for Centre County residents. Its name honors two former Branch presidents. To honor a former book sale leader and Branch president, the Suzanne McCrae Kerlin Scholarship subsequently has been established. Proceeds from the sale also are used to support the national AAUW, State College Branch STEM programs, and branch operations.

The Keokuk branch of the American Association of University Women donated $1500 from its 2011 Book Fair profit to the international organization of AAUW to help fund the Educational Foundation.  AAUW’s fellowship and grant recipients perform research in a wide range of disciplines and work to improve their schools and communities. Their intellect, dedication, imagination, and effort promise to forge new paths in scholarship, improve the quality of life for all, and tackle the educational and social barriers facing women in the United States and around the globe. Donations were given in honor of local AAUW members,  and….  Also honored was the Keokuk Senior High School Konnections program. Students in the program have volunteered for several years to move saved books from storage and begin the set up for the next year’s book fair.

In addition to the donation to the AAUW organization, the local branch also has also funded a $500 scholarship to Southeastern Community College to help a non-traditional student fund her tuition.Thank you for supporting AAUW the past 53 years with donations and attending our Used Book Sales.  We held our last book sale in October 2016.The requested URL /sco/support/index.php?id=htm&page=bonanza was not found on this server.Branch PresidentMary Yedinak, President Program V.P.Audrey Bloemendaal, Program V.P.
