Heinrich von Navarra entpuppt sich als engster Verwandter des Königs und seines Erben, des Dauphin. Der König schickt ihm einen Treuhänder mit dem Vorschlag, wieder zum Katholizismus zu konvertieren – dann ist Heinrich III. bereit, ihn offiziell zu seinem Erben zu erklären; der König ist nicht abgeneigt, sich gegen die Guises auf die Unterstützung der Hugenotten zu verlassen.
