Months after a zombie plague has wiped out 90 percent of the American population, a small group of survivors fight their way cross-country to a rumored refuge on the island of Catalina.
Three small groups of survivors of a zombie plague join forces to reach the ferry boat to a sanctuary that they are not sure that it does exist in the Catalina Island. Along their journey, they are hunted down by hordes of zombies and only a few of them survive.
ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE is The Asylum's stab at the zombie genre and an obvious homage/cash-in on the success of THE WALKING DEAD. It sees a disparate group of characters trekking across a post-apocalypse America, searching for salvation and risking their lives in a constant running battle with the undead.

The film is hindered by a cast of rather poor actors and some very dodgy CGI effects, but in other respects it's surprisingly engaging. There's no denying that Nick Lyon is a poor director, or that the lead young actors are rather wooden, but screenwriter Craig Engler would go on to create the surprisingly entertaining TV series Z NATION and seeds of that show's success are visible here, not least in a solid pacing and plenty of low rent zombie action.

Cast-wise, we're limited to an almost forgotten Ving Rhames in support (perhaps making up for his appearance in the execrable DAY OF THE DEAD remake) and a sighting of Lesley-Ann Brandt, who once propped up TV'S SPARTACUS. The most memorable thing about this film is the unexpected climax, and I can't work out whether it was genius or awful; a bit of both, I suspect. Certainly it's something you won't expect or have seen before in this sub-genre. Treat ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE as a TV movie precursor to Z NATION and you might just enjoy it a little, like I did.
I found it very hard to watch this movie to the end. The acting was awful, the sfx were hilarious, the plot was paper thin.

I normally like zombie flicks, but this thing was not worth the time I spent watching it. I really rather had watched some kind of romantic movie, which I actually don't like at all.

In one scene, a group of zombie is blown up with a hand grenade. These zombies walk between a wall and a black car (about 1 meter apart). After the explosion the car looks fine (no dents or what ever), some flame effects suggest there was an explosion, but that is about it. No crack in the wall, no overturned or damaged car. This is only one example of the many flaws of this movie.

The government doesn't set off EMPs to stop zombies, it sets them off to stop people who have the zombie plague but have not yet turned into zombies. This was done because infected people were fleeing from urban areas by car, train, plane, etc., and were only spreading the plague faster. Having watched all of Europe and the Pacific Rim countries collapse in just days or weeks to the plague, the government used EMPs as a last, desperate measure. It didn't work. 646f9e108c
