A nomad at heart, Zheani Sparkes has travelled the world in search of like-minded and free-spirited people, settling most recently in London after meeting her now BFF: the indigo-eyed, pointed-eared, fork-tongued tattoo artist Grace Neutral . Like Grace, Zheani eschews all normal ideals of beauty. With 18 tattoos, which she refers to as talismans, two round ear plugs and a runic pattern tattooed to her forehead, Zheani is her own kind of beautiful. This uniqueness ultimately led to her being cast by Cara Delevingne in her capsule collection campaign for DKNY last year. An inspiration to young girls far and wide who celebrate her for daring to be different, she has over 63K followers on Insta. Having just landed her debut film role, it looks like Zheani will be setting sail once again, this time heading to the sunny climes of California.
Tell me a bit about yourself and where you grew up? I come from the dystopia that is rural Queensland, Australia. Growing up I couldn't have been more mentally and emotionally removed from my small town surroundings. I spent most of my time dreaming of another world and my escape into it.
Why do you do it? I want to share art with meaning and soul and I hold film close to my heart. It's always engaged me like nothing else and allows me to communicate and express myself with the world around me.
How would you describe your aesthetic? Futuristic, minimalistic, realistic, magic.
You've spoken about witchcraft and psychic abilities online. Can you explain a bit about this? Everyone has the potential to tap into extra sensory abilities and recollections. I'm just vocal and aware of mine. My personal beliefs come from my understanding of scientific keys such as our chakra system and truths like our natural ability to manifest in all forms of life.
How many tattoos do you have and what do they mean? 18 in total, all time stamps and talismans.
What was your main motivation behind tattooing your forehead and what were you trying to express? Its runic purpose is to counterbalance me as I walk this path, hence the placement. It holds personal sentiments but the main message I'm expressing is the consonance of balance (key to life).
Who or what do you aspire to look like? Myself.
What does beauty mean to you? Beauty is a feeling. Beauty can be found in anything, it's in the eye of the beholder... you just have to know what you're looking for.
Tell us about your friendship with Grace Neutral? Our friendship is the reason I came to London this year.
Would you ever venture into extreme body modification like Grace? When Nikon works out cyborg eye vision you know my number!
What is it about decorating your body that interests you? There's something primal about it for me.
Cara picked you for her DKNY capsule collection campaign, how did that come about? She saw my pic and caught my vibe.
What would you say to young girls who feel pressured to look a certain way? The society we live in capitalizes on our spoon-fed insecuritie$. Don't buy into the bullshit.
What are you working on at the moment? My main focus for 2015 is filming The Dream Of The Guest in Palm Springs, California. I play the role of an 18-year-old girl with a dysfunctional family, challenged and pressured by expectations of the people around her.
What are your dreams for the future? I'm going to leave it up to the universe to wait and see.

I recently listened to The Line for the first time and loved it. "Lie and Look" and "Powder Tuff" were my favorites.
I know she's released other albums, but are there similar artists out there? Zheani's music feels so unique.
i just remembered how yolandi said zheani copied her hairstyle but yolandi just has what i call "super short gothic bangs" also how DA said zheani was obsessed with them but ninja tried to speed up the process of her coming to africa cause of how obsessed ninja was with zheani, also the way DA handled the allegations was very immature. Side note: ive noticed that when preforming live yolandi seems to run out of breathe really easily. weird.
i love the queen's work and can never stop streaming the mvs because they're just that good , but today i noticed a little detail in the designer sadness video that i had completely missed and it revealed so much about the mv's meaning that i wrote this; again this was rushed and is potentially stupid crap i made up in my head but i really wanted to share to see what you guys thought and if i'm the only one who has noticed this?
- video begins showing room of teenage protagonist with posters & figurine of an idol/aesthetic everywhere (cute anime girl with tattoos): teen is infatuated with this specific aesthetic/symbol/trend and has plastered it everywhere > details: bookshelf in the background has "dune" books, "the art of war" and other books labelled "WAR" / teen is wearing zheani merch = further showing infatuation with idols
- teen comes home and sits on bed, pulls out laptop and boots her "neuralink" device (metaverse/virtual reality): the first thing she does coming back home is escaping reality; she also doesn't have any tattoos like the ones her idol has = metaverse is the place where she fulfills her fantasy and customises her appearance
- she turns on neuralink device and instantly goes "brain dead", is transported to the metaverse where we see a character selection screen showcasing teens like her in different outfits, one of them has the same tattoos as her "idol" in her room > details: one character is an alien-like elf who has zipties around legs and can't walk properly (?) will later win the tennis game, don't know meaning
- tennis game begins (tattoo girl isn't in the game), starts off as a 2v2, turns into a 3v1, generica loses against the 3 others
- a message then appears "your social credit score is dangerously low neura-cast your support for the #cause now" , and tattoo girl shows up on screen holding another tattoo girl's butt, then ends up getting in a fight with herself and choking herself to death: teen has to make up for lack of social credit (money or online notoriety?) by selling her body = is literally killing herself as she sells her ass. the "#cause" is a reference to the "i support the current thing" meme which denounces social media virtue signaling
- teen in real world is still brain dead, begins convulsing and dies (message appears "you died *neura-corp holds no liability in the eventually of injury or death as detailed in the government's 'no fault metaverse claim scheme' following extensive consultation with the peak medical, business and insurance sectors to ensure comprehensive corporate government outcomes. please refer to your mandatory social contract" ), is then transported to the virtual "limbo": she sold her soul and pays the price, ends up in the virtual hell + the protagonist's death from the neuralink as a ref to the mandatory jabs and its side effects?
did anyone else’s zheani vinyl arrive unsealed (there was a sort of sealing but it was open at the top, just like a dust protection slip) & the sleeve with the vinyl in it was seperate from the cover sleeve, like it was outside of it…
I was wondering if anyone knew any interviews or discussion material Zheani has posted about her views on the sex work industry.
I’ve been listening to her for years under the impression much of Zheani’s work (like Sell My Soul and Fuck The Hollywood Cult) were criticizing sex work and the way it monetizes the grooming/sexualizing of young women.
I just checked her site for the first time today to see she does OF. I’m a bit confused, I knew she was reclaiming her body and sexuality through her art but I didn’t know she did SW. Has she done any interviews, discussions, AMAs, writings, etc on her views? I would like to learn more about the meaning in her lyrics since I had misunderstood them for so long. I’d also really love to learn how she views the ‘safe and consensual’ versus ‘exploitative capitalism’ debate.
