I don’t get why we even have tourists there. It’s just a mall but bigger. Maybe when they put in the water park I’ll get it.
We went twice because we were living in a Midwest town and it was cheaper to visit and fly to a destination from there than to fly from the nearest airport. It was kinda like a pit stop before heading out the country.
I’m so hopeful Amazon will pick up American Gods after Starz cancelled it.
I'm happy where it ended because it was similar to the book. When they got rid of Anansi and brought in the Orisha I had to cock an eyebrow and try to not write a 15 page commentary on the writers replacing Black rage with hippy dippy peace and love (which is cool too under some circumstances) while at the same time bringing in the random psycho Marilyn Manson character. There was a lot going on there.
It would be cool to see the world continuing to expand though. Even if I was really having trouble wondering where it was going.

There is a part of me that wants to fully empathize with people who are upset about Kirby because I understand how important these characters are to everyone who knows and loves the Sandman.
As a "goth" I kinda-but-not-really get that Death Endless embodies "THE Goth Girl". Pale skin and dark hair and what not. So for some it's not just a disappointment of not getting "The Look". It's also losing the image they love/adore/fetishize/are attracted to/try to embody of not just a goth woman but THE goth woman. That image/representation of something that's a part of people is being "taken" away. It probably really fucking sucks for them. People are literally losing a part of themselves. It hurts, I get that.
In regards to "The Look" I can't empathize because I have dark skin and pull it off very well. Yes, my skin is dark but MAC makes an eye liner that does an excellent job at creating black details against my skin. Black clothing still looks dramatic against my skin tone. "The Look" can and I'm sure will be achieved. They just need to not use eyeliner found in the aisles at Walmart. I'm sure they have the budget to make it happen.
I keep saying "The Look" because White skinned/people don't own "The Goth Look". This might be hard for some some folks to get and some people might think that the goth look belongs to White culture. To that I say, no.
The Endless appear as whatever they want to appear as (insert Kai'chul here). So I can't be bothered by being upset about the change in appearance other than to feel joy at seeing a Black "Goth" (not saying that Kirby is a goth) depicting one of my favorite characters. It means so much to me as a Black woman with a closet full of black. I'm literally GIDDY with excitement.
So I get it. This excitement, this joy, this feeling of having my favorite comic character brought to the screen... as a Black woman? Who looks/dresses like me?!?! I mean, I may have teared up watching one of the trailers.
This feeling that I have, just got ripped away for some people. Maybe, I'd be a little agitated as well. I'm only assuming this because of the amount of joy I am feeling at Death being represented as a Black Woman.
But to this I say.... At least people have the comics and... Jesus?
Speaking of Jesus, this all kind of reminds me of American Gods and the different representations of Jesus (Mexican, White, etc) in the TV series. I know they are separate worlds but still, we already know that the Endless appear differently to people depending on the group they are appearing to.
In that vein what I find interesting is, what culture and who in that culture are we seeing Death through for the Netflix adaptation? British? Black British? I'm not going to go down that road of who has the shortest life span in eurocentric countries and probably sees Death faster than most but I think it's kinda cool and relevant that Death is appearing as Black. It almost feels like that's who she might be appearing to most often in the present day and age.
I also can't fully empathize with people who are upset because the character of Death Endless does not belong to anyone other than Neil Gaiman (imo). Death is his creation, none of us owns Death. So, on one hand, while I get losing the image someone chose to adore/fetishize/is attracted to/tries to embody is upsetting... On the other hand maybe they never loved the character that he created? Maybe they just loved the image of her and you know, that's okay.
Maybe they do love the character as well as the image but the cognitive disconnect between pale and white being changed to dark and black is too much for "their" beloved Death.
I mean, hell, eurocentric countries are not depicting Jesus as brown and I imagine if all of a sudden the world woke up and all crucifix's across the America/Europe had a black dude hanging from it Christians would shit themselves. The same thing is kinda happening here I guess? Both religion and fandoms are nuts but lucky for Sandman fans the writer of the story is still alive to thumbs up the latest depiction of one of the Endless.
Either way, I promise that I'll feel more than enough joy and delight at Death's image in the live action adaption of The Sandman to make-up for anyone's disappointment. I'm grateful to have a Black "goth" woman depicted in major media. Yes, it feels really good that she is depicting "the" archetype of a goth woman. I'd be a liar if I said it didn't. This is way better than that IHOP commercial.
Also, I hope that somehow with Rose also being Black that the show shifts the comics just enough to create a link between her story and Nada's. That would be kinda nifty because I always felt like there was more to her story even after her reincarnation. Maybe we're seeing what Death looks like to Rose and Nada.

I purchased 12 years ago before marriage and graduate school. I went through a broker with a pretty not great credit score and qualified for a decent amount (I was a bartender and only counted income on paper). I did have mortgage insurance because I only put 6%. My interest rate wasn't great and the house was a liable fixer upper. Fast forward to 10 years after took out a construction loan and totally gutted and remodeled. Beat decision ever. Cut my interest rate by 3% put a ton of money into the house and we are sitting on a house that's worth way more than we owe. My loan got sold so many times (I think because I was paying the principle off so aggressively) but that broker got me that loan.
My advice would be to get a "starter" home that is well below what the bank agrees to lend you. This might be a one story ranch that needs a better kitchen and bath but is on a nice plot. It doesn't have to be fancy and pick location over size any day of the week. You absolutely should make the purchase before going to graduate school. Unless you have a ton to put down they are going to want to see a long history of being in the same field and bringing in an income. Grad students make dirt and they aren't going to lend you enough money for a house on a graduate salary.
