Zatanna Zatara is the daughter of the great magician John Zatara and Sindella , who came from a sub-race of humans imbued with magic. Coming from a lineage with great magical powers, Zatanna inherited her parents’ skills and became both a stage magician and an actual sorceress. Ever since her introduction in the comics, she has fought alongside the heroes of the DC universe.
Her magic activates when she chants the words of her spells backwards, also called Logomancy. Zatanna uses this method of casting spells as a tribute to her father. She can conjure a long list of impressive magic spells but she has to be able to utter the spells clearly, a technicality that her opponents often exploit. Despite this setback, Zatanna is considered as one of the most powerful magicians in existence.
A master of sleight-of-hand and illusions, it’s no doubt why Zatanna earned the moniker “Mistress of Magic”. Zatanna Zatara comes to life in a stunning DC Comics cosplay from cosplayer Sweet Calamity that shows the magical hero on stage.
DC's most iconic magic user Zatanna gets a stunning cosplay from cosplayer Sweet Calamity. The comic-accurate costume features Zatanna Zatara's trademark top hat, fishnets, and white corset as she graces the stage during one of her magical performances. With the Justice League Dark hero soon coming to the silver screen in a project from Emerald Fennel and J.J. Abrams , the cosplay shows what Zatanna could look like in live-action.
Zatanna has been a key fixture in DC Comics' most magical stories ever since she first appeared in Hawkman #4 back in 1964. Created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, the hero is the daughter of one of DC's oldest heroes, Zatara, who appeared in Action Comics #1 alongside Superman. Zatanna is both a magician on the stage and in real life. Zatanna is a master of magic, casting spells by speaking them backward. Over time, she's become a key member of Justice League Dark and has been a member of DC's main Justice League. In the comics, she's often romantically paired with John Constantine while additionally serving as one of Batman's most trusted confidants.
On her Reddit account, cosplayer Sweet Calamity shared her fantastic recreation of Zatanna. Zatanna Zatara is at home on the stage as she tips her top hat while looking out to the audience in the image. The look recreates the hero's iconic costume, featuring details such as her white bow tie, gloves, and black jacket. However, taking the picture on the stage brings the hero to life, as Sweet Calamity stands out in front of the massive red curtains and shining lights.
Sweet Calamity shared a number more of the cosplays she's worn over recent months on her Instagram and Reddit pages. Among the looks include her take on the classic Lady Loki from the comics, the version of Black Widow from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as Ashe from Overwatch. On her accounts, Sweet Calamity also has more snapshots of her Zatanna cosplay as well.
While a feature film starring Zatanna is coming, the character hasn't been done much justice in live-action as she has in DC's comic books and several animated movies. However, Zatanna fans shouldn't have to wait much longer to see the character on the big (and little) screen. Hopefully, it's not too long before the hero debuts in the DCEU . The spell-casting magician is an immensely powerful character, and her pairings with the Justice League and Justice League Dark have done an exceptional job in showcasing her abilities and her strength. Now that comic book films are a formidable force at the box office, expect to see Zatanna make her way to the big screen, quickly becoming a fan favorite with moviegoers like Harley Quinn did with Suicide Squad . Making her comic book debut all the way back in 1964 in Hawkman , and she has had run-ins with virtually every prominent character in the DC Universe. The powerful character has had a relationship with anti-hero John Constantine, and there has always been a connection between her and Batman. The two were childhood friends (in some iterations), and their parents were close. She seems like she would be a great suitor for the Caped Crusader, but alas, this hasn't come to fruition.

Fans who grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series no doubt remember the episode that centered around Zatanna. The episode was a memorable one, and it was great to see the character appear in the beloved series.
With a flick of her wrist and the casting of a spell, Zatanna is able to do the unthinkable, and this cosplayer here seems to have it down. She looks excellent in the costume, and the small tattoo on her leg just adds to it all.
While it was still airing on television, Smallville was a massive hit, and the series aired 218 episodes over the course of 10 seasons. It focused on the early years of Superman as he is growing up in the small town in Kansas. Smallville was able to tell unique stories as well as blend in plenty of familiar faces to DC fans during its time on television, and the series received plenty of critical acclaim as well. It would be on Smallville that Zatanna would make her live-action debut, and fans were thrilled to see her appear on the series, and she would make several appearances over the course of the show's final seasons. Zatanna was played by the gorgeous Serinda Swan, and the gorgeous performer was incredibly well-cast in the role.

The animated film Justice League Dark was released in early 2017, and it was met with some positive reviews from critics. The story saw a team of Zatanna, Batman, Constantine, and Deadman looking to take down a supernatural threat. The animated feature saw all hell breaking loose at first, but the heroes were able to save the day.
