What a fascinating resort, it feels like it has had a lot of money invested in it, the heated elevator into the large modern base building was far more European than I am used to in Japan. Unfortunately Maranuma was another one of those places that lives up to its reviews - the trees are literally too tight to ski - and I love skiing tight trees! I am eager to explore the backside of Oze, down to Tokura. If anyone on here has some experience in the region and wants some riding friends this season let me know! Yellow in the image above is Katashina Kogen ski resort and it's just next to Oze Iwakura. They should have a connecting course and joint lift ticket. Katashina village has its own 'Akiaya Bank'. This lodge is only m away from the ski slope pf Katashina Kogen means very close to Oze Iwakura as well. I mean, we recently see a lot of Westerners, not only Asian tourists in Tohoku and they had skied in Niseko too before. At first, Niseko attract a lot of foreign skiers, and some of them come to Tohoku. In the long run, it's very important especially for Tohoku because Tohoku - Hokkaido Shinkansen is going to Niseko too in the future. JR are selling quite reasonable rail pass for foreign tourists. The rail pass is for 14 days. A lot of foreign skiers will ski in Niseko for 8 days and 4 days in Tohoku by use of the JR pass I've recently heard a lot of quite big investments in Niseko region.
