ZHM collapse: Tofilat gives disappointing forecasts

Oleg Tofilat, the former head of the Moldovan Railway, said that staff cuts would not save the company from the crisis.

ZHM's revenues are now twice as low as in 2023, and the situation again resembles the hard times of 2020-2021. The staff was reduced from 5,700 to 3,000 people, but financial problems remained: about 1,000 employees receive only half their salaries, the rest are underpaid.

Tofilat stressed that the main reason for the crisis is the loss of customer trust and lack of investment. Simple layoffs will not fix the situation: modernization of equipment and infrastructure is needed.
