Sword Art Online has a strong fan base that loves it flaws and all, and certain cosplayers were inspired to imitate the adorable character of Yui.

Though it has stirred up its fair share of controversy over the years, Sword Art Online still manages to have an incredibly passionate and talented fanbase. Known mostly for its titular characters, Kirito and Asuna, that isn't to say that the more supporting characters don't get their time in the spotlight as well. Today we'll be focusing on Yui, the adorably curious A.I. that was taken in by Kirito and Asuna during their time in Aincrad. Though not as popular as her foster parents, Yui still certainly receives well-deserved attention from cosplayers.
With that, it's time to go through ten Yui cosplays that, without a doubt, do her justice.
One thing that stands out about Yui from her first meeting is just how childlike and innocent she really seems, and NiNi Cosplay captures this essence perfectly! Despite being only twelve years old, she already has the look and pose down of a professional cosplayer. The fabric used for her dress looks incredibly delicate and suits the character quite well. The only thing that could make this better would be her parents joining in as Kirito and Asuna!
It's obvious just how much she captures the true essence of Yui, and as she continues cosplaying and getting more experience, she'll only become better.
The first thing you notice about Misa Chan's Yui cosplay is that sweet, wide-eyed gaze that almost seems to draw you in. Everything looks incredibly accurate, too, from the dress and cut of the wig all the way down to the flower in her hair. The fabric looks incredibly silky and comfortable, as well, which is always a plus with something you're going to want to wear all day.
The way her hands are positioned, delicately resting over her legs, really helps to bring out the character's personality as well. We just wish we could get a better look at the ankle accessories since what's visible looks really well-done.
Next up, we have a slightly different take on Yui, but the personality and feel of the character is still very much in-tact. Atlantisan's Yui is based around her light novel design, rather than the anime look that most fans might be familiar with. The simple yet sophisticated look fits her quite well, and the pose serves to help bring out the sweet and innocent nature of the character.
Everything, down to the pleats of the bottom half of the dress, looks wonderful and certainly manages to do Yui justice.
Here we have another light novel take on Yui, but she's joined by her foster mother Asuna in this shot! Lissi truly manages to capture the spirit of Yui in this shot, smiling sweetly while she receives gentle, reassuring touches from Asuna. The delicate posing on her hands helps to bring out the gentle nature of her character as well.
These two have certainly managed to capture the feeling of Yui and Asuna's relationship in this shot, and it's incredibly sweet to see. All we need now for the perfect family portrait is Kirito!
Yui's job while in Aincrad, at least before coming into contact with Kirito and Asuna, was to observe the players of SAO as well as monitor their mental health. Naturally, she had to spend a lot of time sitting and watching, and KurumiKurusu's take captures this side of her quite well. Not only do the dress, wig and pose look incredibly true to character, but she went the extra step and painted her toenails black for the cosplay as well! It's definitely a nice touch.
Though her smile is incredibly sweet, the hands resting on her chin is a nice sign that Yui wasn't entirely content with her job of simply watching. It's amazing how just a simple pose can say so much about the backstory of a character, and she certainly pulled it off.
While cosplay has a wonderful magic by itself, cosplays done by two or more people always have a special magic about them. This adorably sweet Asuna and Yui shot was actually taken by the mother of the Yui, Cinnabunny, as she currently doesn't have a page of her own to speak of. Their familial hand-holding is so sweet along with how they're looking at each other!
It's the true face of mother-daughter happiness, and it's definitely one of the sweetest cosplays we've seen.
Zayuri-Chan's take on Yui is nothing short of breathtaking! The first thing you'll definitely notice is her gaze, the makeup perfectly complimenting her cosplay and the personality of the character. The way her hands are posed help to breathe life into her portrayal as well, perfectly showing off her delicately manicured nails. The ears are really well-done and true to character as well!
The actual effects on the photo help to bring out an almost mystical sort of feeling, as well, the bubbles floating around Yui drawing out more of her childlike nature.
Not many cosplays take the opportunity to portray what Yui was like before encountering Kirito and Asuna, but MinnieOtakuDreamer's take on her is an absolutely wonderful exception. As an A.I. tasked with keeping track of the mental health in a game where players actual lives were in real danger, Yui had to see a lot of grim things. She wasn't allowed to comfort players in any way and was exposed to a lot of misery and death.
The expression on this cosplay perfectly expresses that as she monitors several different screens, not seeming very thrilled as to what she might find on them.
JieKi's Yui is another incredibly sweet take on her light novel appearance. She appears to be looking out into the distance, pondering the day when she could join all of the people whom she has to watch over every day. The outfit and pose are incredibly true to form and bring out the sweet part of Yui's personality very well.
What's even more impressive is that in the bio for this photo, she actually admits that the dress itself is made out of bedsheets! That's probably an incredibly comfortable dress and quite an imaginative way to secure fabric for a cosplay.
For the last cosplay on today's list, we absolutely have to talk about RomaiLee's take on Yui. It appears as if Asuna is helping to support her as they're knee-deep in absolutely beautiful waters. The way that their dresses flow and their gorgeous matching wings, combined with the light shining in from the trees, helps to give everything an almost ethereal presence. It's clear that a lot of care, thought and planning went into this shot, and it certainly shows.
It honestly doesn't even look like a real-life location, but rather a shot pulled directly out of the source material, which is incredibly impressive. The strong-willed nature of Asuna complementing Yui's more childlike side is captured perfectly.
