Some older men are reaching young teens online or by mobile phone

The public's image of a predatory paedophile typically involves a middle-aged man, glued to the internet or walking the streets, intent on finding victims.
But the work of Barnardo's with more than 1,000 young people who have suffered sexual exploitation reveals a more complicated threat, and one that closely reflects the society in which we live.
The charity invited the BBC to one of its women's projects, behind a nondescript entrance in a residential street in inner London.
The work done there is highly sensitive and we agreed not to reveal its location.
She was sexually abused after meeting a man she had been in contact with online. She had been using the internet relatively unsupervised, from an early age - logging on to sites she describes as "for older people".
"They say come, come, you're beautiful - I want to see you. It's just words."
But she admits, she was "forced into a situation". She's understandably reluctant to say more.
But the damage done to young minds is obvious. "You feel like you don't want to exist any more," Lorena says.
Barnardo's is worried at the number of cases where older men deliberately target, encourage, coerce and then exploit young teenagers.
The charity's chief executive, Martin Narey, calls it "a hidden obscenity".
"There is an understandable tendency to believe this happens very rarely. In fact it's everywhere, in every town and city in the UK," he says.
"Professionals involved with children need to know the tell-tale signs. The earlier abuse is identified, the earlier we can stop it."
Barnardo's believes there are a number of warning signs that parents, teachers, social workers and police officers should be able to spot.
These include young people who disappear from school and home, the secretive use of mobile phones and the internet, unexplained gifts such as new clothes, jewellery, mobile phones or money, and drug and alcohol abuse.
Exploitation is in some way created by the conditions of society today, in that most at risk are young people already living tough lives - in particular, those in care, or from unstable families.
There is the "teenage factor" any parent will recognise.
Sexual exploitation is happening at the very point many victims are most vulnerable - during their transition from childhood to adulthood.
As Lorena puts it: "I just wanted to get out of the house, when I had issues with my mum. I wanted my own space."
For Louise, also 15, it was drinking that put her into danger.
"I thought I was a big girl... I was about 12, 13, and I was drinking. It was causing me trouble. I got sexually assaulted, under the influence of drink," she says.
This led to older men - late teens, deliberately targeting her.
"They take advantage of you. You're not in a stable situation so you're going to be all flirty and thinking 'yeah I'm getting boys' attention'. They take advantage of you because you're younger."
"They can tell you what you want to hear. They can tell you I'm going to buy you this, I'm going to buy you that. I'm going to be your prince charming."
Her friends, were unable to help because "they were drunk too".
The way in which technology has become part of young lives has also had an impact.
Louise says mobile phone numbers are freely passed around and she admits: "I gave my number to someone I shouldn't have."
There have been cases where abusers have given girls mobile phones, simply to keep them in touch.
These are not cases where the victims are in any way responsible for what happens to them.
Their age means, according to Barnardo's, "they cannot, legally consent to their own abuse".
Child sexual exploitation covers a broad range of offences.
The Barnardo's case workers, who deal with dozens of abused girls, say they are concerned about the growing problem of gangs who encourage young girls to be members and then slowly move towards coercing them into organised sex, often involving a number of men.
In one case a young man was abused, as part of his membership of a drug gang, to enforce his lower position in the hierarchy.
Another concern is that abused women may be trafficked either around the UK or abroad.
The Home Office has stressed the importance of not using the phrase "child prostitution" in recognition of the coercive nature of the crimes.
Counsellors at centres around the UK are now dealing with the damage done to the young victims.
Louise says it has changed her and made her tougher: "I'm not so gullible any more. I used to believe anything anyone said. I'd rather have no friends, than friends that are just going to tread on you and treat you like crap."
She is, it's worth remembering, just 15.

SOUTH AMHERST, Ohio – Authorities in the small Lorain County town of South Amherst are investigating the circumstances that led to the creation of a video showing underage teen-agers having sex while young classmates watched, 19/43 News' Bill Younkin reported.
The teens involved were all students at Firelands High School. Firelands students, including senior Jim Wilgor, said that they've heard about the videotape, which shows a 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy having sex in front of other students.
"I don't think it's right, and I think they should be punished," Wilgor said.
Deputies said that the incident apparently took place on a late Friday night in the 16-year-old boy's home.
"There are quite a few people involved, as far as witnesses go -- witnesses who were there," Sheriff's investigator Det. Carl Yost said.
Yost said he believes that the girl was a voluntary participant. He said that the girl's mother found the tape, and called the sheriff's department.
The South Amherst community, including those people at Dewey's Barber Shop on Tuesday, is just starting to hear about the investigation, and they are in shock because their idea of children at play certainly doesn't include what is on the tape.
"It's ridiculous," Paul Shank said. "They have no morals whatsoever."
"It's unbelievable," barber Dewey Acord said. "It just doesn't make sense for young kids to get involved in stuff like that."
Now, the teens face a lot of questioning by not only detectives, but their parents as well.
Investigators said that they hope to wrap up the investigation and hand over the facts to the county prosecutor by the end of the week.

A highly religious Colorado man is being dragged on social media for allegedly sexually harassing a group of bikini-clad teens — all in the name of his “Lord and savior.”
At a Fort Collins reservoir over Labor Day weekend, an adult man known as Logan Dorn online, whose age is as-yet unclear, was filmed haranguing the young women, most of whom are reportedly aged 18, for wearing bikinis at a beach.
One of Dorn’s targets, 18-year-old Mia, filmed the uncomfortable exchange and posted the now-viral footage to TikTok , where it has racked up 2.4 million views.
Dorn, meanwhile, has claimed that he acted in “righteous anger.” (Yes, he has his own religion-themed TikTok , modestly dubbed “THE DWELLING PLACE WHERE YOU CAN ENCOUNTER GOD.”)
“Take young eyes into consideration. They don’t need to see pornography right in front of them. You’re flaunting your stuff,” he told the group of women as they filmed.
“Please leave us alone. Kindly,” one of the women asks in an effort to quickly and politely disengage with Dorn.
“That’s a thong and that’s a bra,” he points out.
From behind the camera, one of the women reiterates, “Please go away… don’t look at me.”
“You look around and you’re the only thing that sticks out,” he insists.
Dorn continues digging his proverbial heels in the sand, saying that America boasts “free will” and “freedom of speech” — meaning he had a right to be there, telling the women to cover up.
He then added that he’s speaking not only for the sake of democracy, but on behalf of the will of God. “If men of God don’t stand up, then our society’s gonna go down the drain because there’s no morality,” he says.
The women snicker at his proclamations all the while.
“And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you,” he continues.
“There’s gonna come a day when you’re gonna come face-to-face with God,” he adds.
Meanwhile, the woman who appears to be in Dorn’s party approaches the preacher and directs him away — but not before giving the women her own two cents. “It does matter what you guys wear, not because of what he says, but because you need to value yourself,” she tells the women.
Mia’s footage, parts one and two , have since racked up over 3.5 million combined views across social platforms, namely TikTok. Many following the story have come to the support of the bikini-clad women.
Viewers also observed that Dorn appeared unfazed by the fact that a man in a Speedo swim suit — an equally revealing number — was sunbathing nearby.
One of the young women in the group, named Maddie , commented on a video after seeing fans pile-on Dorn. “We should have thrown sand at him!” she replied. “I’m so sorry. We didn’t think about it.”
“The fragile masculinity, off the charts,” added Mia in a follow-up video.
Now, the God-fearing beachgoer is speaking out to clarify his perspective: “I’m not gonna apologize, I’m gonna continue to stand on the truth, I’m gonna continue to stand on the word of God.
“My side of the story is, I was at a reservoir or a lake and I was with family members, all different ages, from my age to college age, all the way down to … a 2-year-old girl,” he says, in one of three separate responses on TikTok, all of which combined have received less than 800 “likes” in support.
He then reveals that someone with his group wished to relocate due to “college-aged women showing too much.”
“Right then and there, I felt just a righteous anger come over me, and also just a boldness by the Holy Spirit just to go and confront these ladies and to speak to truth that, ‘Hey, what you’re wearing is not OK for a 9-year-old boy or a 6-year-old boy,'” he said.
He claimed he was coming from a position of personal experience — having struggled with an apparently dire pornography habit. “Being introduced to pornography at a young age, it destroyed me and I [had] in that moment just a righteous anger to defend and protect young eyes,” he explained.
“You can’t find your worth in your body, that the physical never satisfies, that there’s gonna come a day when you’re face to face with God… you know, things of that nature,” Dorn continued.
“Our society is on such a downcline [sic] of morality, pornography and lust is at an all time high,” he added.

Woody Allen has made his film again.
You know the one. A young woman with metric f**ktonnes of attitude and sexual agency goes after a neurotic man.
In this case the girl in question (though we might as well go full Nabokov and call her a nymphet) is fifteen. And she comes on to Jude Law who is in his fourties. Similarly, Chloe Grace Moretz is starring in the grim looking I Love You, Daddy.
(Yes, they are making a film called that).
The upshot of these films is broadly speaking the same. Beautiful young women striving for relationships with men considerably older than them.
The response to the news that these films are being made is one of disgust. People are asking why, they’re questioning in what world Elle Fanning and Jude Law feels like an appropriate romantic pairing and some people have suggested that it’s unlikely that a woman that young would want to be with a man that old.

I might not like it, you might like it, and we might all wish that is wasn’t true, but the thing is, teenage girls do fancy older men. They do desire them.
When we pretend that teenage girls don’t have a sexual identity, or that they don’t ever find older men attractive, we ignore the problem. When we ignore the problem, we allow it to flourish.
I attended an all girl Catholic boarding school where there was, as you can imagine, sweet FA in terms of male attention to be had. I had always assumed that man-drought was the reason that most of us developed a passionate crush on a teacher at some point in our school career.
But having spoken to women who were raised in slightly less bizarre circumstances, I’ve revised that assumption. It’s not just girls who go to school in the middle of nowhere with no boys to flirt with who form passionate romantic obsessions with male teachers.
It happens at every school, in every town, all over the world.
Don’t we all have that friend who dated an ‘older’ guy when she was at school? I have more stories than I can count of sneaking out of school to meet up with men in their twenties and thirties so that we could drive around in his car drinking the alcohol he’d brought us and sneaking an illicit cigarette.
When you’re a teenager it doesn’t take much to make you feel sophisticated. Drinking, smoking and the ability to drive feel like the trifecta of adulthood, and if you’ve got even two of the three, you’re impressive.
Dating a teenager is a particularly intoxicating opportunity for men who struggle with women their own age. The benefit of being an older man is that you’re able to attract more conventionally attractive girls.
A younger woman will look up to you. She’ll listen to you. She’ll see you as wordly, she’ll see you as impressive. If you tell her she’s ‘mature’ for her age, she’ll believe you.
Which is exactly why men have a responsibility not to pursue younger women.
Even a small age gap – mid teens to early twenties, still carries this kind of imbalance. The vast majority of men would never want to accidentally take advantage of a younger woman. When it happens it’s not motivated my malice or designed to be predatory. It’s because they don’t realise that they’re acting from a position of power.
I draw a line in my head between the older men I fancied at a teenager who resolutely refused to engage with it, and those who indulged it or even courted it. There were teacher
