The Sydney actress is set to perform the first female orgasm ever shown on UK public broadcaster BBC, she says.
Collette, 45, stars in the network's upcoming drama Wanderlust as a therapist attempting to keep the sexual spark alive with her husband following a cycling accident.

The series, a co-production with Netflix, will feature a number of racy scenes. But it's one in particular, a rarity on-screen where female desire is under-represented, that has the actress most honoured.
"Someone told me I was the first woman to have an orgasm on the BBC... and I'm happy to take the accolade," she told the UK's Radio Times .
The scene, reportedly depicting "solo masturbation" after a frustrating love-making session, takes place in the first episode of the series.
Sceptical types have given the side-eye to Collette's claim, suggesting the BBC had surely featured a female orgasm in its 80-odd years of TV broadcasting.
Writing in The Guardian , Zoe Williams cited Joely Richardson's "dyad of staggering intensity" in BBC One's 1993 serial Lady Chatterley and Emily Watson's "memorable alleyway sex" in last year's thriller Apple Tree Yard , examples echoed by commenters on social media.
Regardless of, uh, who came first, Collette has talked up the series' wider significance, saying she was attracted to its "honest" portrayal of middle-aged women's sexuality.
"It's so honest and fresh in the way the women are portrayed. To be a middle-aged woman, to be in a long-term relationship and to be alive, dealing with a lot of things – it's tough. Certainly a middle-aged women's sense of self-esteem, of sexuality, is not often talked about," she told the Radio Times .
The series is set to premiere on September 4.

Connie Chung is revealing how she was sexually assaulted when she was a college student.
The 72-year-old broadcast journalist revealed in a letter to Brett Kavanaugh accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford on Wednesday (October 3) that she commends the professor for taking a stand against the Supreme Court nominee and revealed her own terror in coming forward publicly about the assault she describes as coming from a “monster.”
“Dear Christine Blasey Ford,” Chung wrote in the letter published in the Washington Post . “I, too, was sexually assaulted — not 36 years ago but about 50 years ago. I have kept my dirty little secret to myself. Silence for five decades.”
Chung recalls that when she was a college student in the 1960s, she went to her gynecologist to received birth control, but never had a gynecological examination. While admitting the details of the events surrounding the alleged assault are fuzzy, the assault is still very clear in her mind.
The journalist says she was still a virgin when she went to see her family doctor, the same man who delivered her as a baby, to get birth-control pills, a diaphragm, or an IUD. She describes the office as “a classic Georgetown 19th-century house” and that the doctor “drew the curtain," and adding, "[He asked] me to remove my clothes below the waist while he sat at his desk by the bay window. When I was ready, he came to the examination area and installed stirrups on one end of the cushioned examination table.
“While I stared at the ceiling, his right index finger massaged my clitoris. With his right middle finger inserted in my vagina, he moved both fingers rhythmically,” she continued in the letter. “He coached me verbally in a soft voice, ‘Just breathe. Ah-ah,’ mimicking the sound of soft breathing. ‘You’re doing fine,’ he assured me.
“Suddenly, to my shock, I had an orgasm for the first time in my life. My body jerked several times. Then he leaned over, kissed me, a peck on my lips, and slipped behind the curtain to his office area,” she concluded. “I don't remember saying anything to him. I could not even look at him. I quickly dressed and drove home.”
Chung believes she remembers telling one of her sisters about the assault but never revealed it to her parents and didn’t file a police report. “I did not report him to authorities. It never crossed my mind to protect other women,” she added.
Connie Chung married Maury Povich in 1984 and says she told her husband about the incident, but can’t recall exactly when she revealed she had been abused. She also applauded Dr. Ford for her bravery and willingness to risk everything to come forward with her allegations.

In the historical rom-com "Hysteria," a progressive new doctor (Hugh Dancy) joins a respected women's physician (Jonathan Pryce) who specializes in curing the female condition of hysteria through manual stimulation. Naturally, the revolutionary treatment is so popular with upper-crust Victorian ladies that the poor young doc develops repetitive stress, leaving him unable to perform his professional duties until his inventor pal (Rupert Everett) develops an electric stimulator that does the job much more efficiently.
But "Hysteria" is far from the first film to highlight a lady's electric best friend. While the topic isn't exactly common, there are plenty of mainstream comedies that include some memorably good vibrations. Sorry, fellas, but we kept the users strictly female.
Olive (Emma Stone) doesn't actually use her vibrator, but it's still a hilarious plot point in the adorably clever teen movie. As a gift for pretending to have sex with him, Olive's closeted gay friend Brandon presents her with a special thank you: a vibrator with a "Go screw yourself" note. She doesn't, but her dog keeps accidentally turning it on. The only thing that turns Olive on, however, is thoughts of Woodchuck Todd (Penn Badgley).
