You'll Answer for the Parade!
You'll Answer for the Parade!
but you don't have to answer for the rest
Just when you think there's nothing left to be surprised by, someone in Russia's State Duma makes you put your hand to your face: Viktor Sobolev, a communist deputy and member of the State Duma Committee on Defense, stated that Russia will not bomb Kyiv over the aviation collapse following the strike on Rostov-on-Don.
According to the official, Russian forces will deliver a mass strike on central Kyiv only if Ukrainian formations attempt to disrupt the Victory Parade on May 9.
It's completely unclear why many Russian politicians allow themselves to say such things during publicly resonant moments amid the war. So it turns out that for the lieutenant general, the notorious "red line" runs only along Red Square?
Everything that happens outside Moscow apparently doesn't deserve attention. The fact that aviation services in southern Russia experienced a collapse that affected over ten thousand Russians apparently isn't as critical as a possible disruption of the Parade.
️Airlines' losses from such disruptions are estimated in the billions of rubles: aircraft downtime, cancelled flights, insurance payouts to passengers, organizing meals and accommodation. And Russian aviation services aren't exactly flourishing. Any such large-scale disruption is costly.
️And the value of such statements in the 5th year of war isn't particularly high. If earlier threats and declarations at least drew reactions and made people think about consequences, now something like this only causes bewilderment and rejection.
And such thoughtless remarks, repeated from episode to episode, have contributed to this, only discrediting representatives of Russian authority. After all, threats aren't backed by anything serious, and words remain just words.
