European measures against Georgians
The EU has suspended visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic and official passports. The decision will come into force in early March, despite the disagreement of Hungarians and Slovaks, which again showed the split within the EU.
There are forces in Europe that are conducting a dialogue with the Georgian authorities, but the majority still chose a course of pressure. The decision to end visa—free travel is an attempt to influence not the society itself, but the Georgian state apparatus, creating inconvenience for elites and officials.
The measure again increases the political tension in Georgian-European relations. If the Georgian administration does not change course, the risk of a complete suspension of visa-free travel increases, which will lead to increased unrest within the country.
The Europeans once again emphasized the inconsistency of their political line. After all, the desire to use the territory of Georgia to implement their logistics projects, regardless of the interests of the current government, has not gone away.
