Yaoi Cosplay

I figured I'd start this thread, I was curious.

How do DN cosplayers feel about yaoi cosplays? Why do you not like it? And if you like it, what are your favorite character pairings (straight and yuri included)?

In my personal opinion, I love MXM, and I'm just now getting into BBXL (Odd I know o_O) I also love MattXNear, ^.^

Opinions?

Here's the thing.

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with yaoi/BL ("boys' love," not the pairing. Haha.) In fact, I'll admit to liking it. It's just that yaoi fans, Death Note cosplayers who do BL group cosplays/photos/etc., and the like, get such a bad reputation. Like a lot of other things in cosplay (or life in general,) a few people spoil it for lots of others.

Now, I'm not saying that anyone who does BL-themed cosplay is automatically a bad person/a bad cosplayer/immature/whatever. In fact, I've seen some amazing cosplayers who are probably amazing people too and do a lot of that kind of stuff. I'm just not sure that I'd ever feel comfortable doing it myself. (That may have a lot to do with the fact that most of my friends who like anime/cosplay don't like yaoi, and I'm not about to force anything on anyone.) Who knows, though? Maybe.

A lot of people aren't going to approve of this kind of cosplay, but as long as you're thinking about what you're doing, you're probably fine. Don't get too physical in public, don't try to force other cosplayers to do something they're not comfortable with, don't run around cons squeeing your head off, etc. (This goes for anything, really, not just male/male pairings. And this isn't directed at anyone here or anyone in particular.)
Sane yaoi fans do exist.

Too that. I have a photoshoot coming up, now I'm not sure what my L is comfortable with, I asked her if she was okay with yaoi, she hasn't responded yet. Just for a guide, what's apprpriate (to if she's okay with it, and if she's not)?

And I'm really not sure what kinds of shots to do (suggestions? We both have nothing >.<), our location is outside a court house.

If she's not okay with it: Don't do anything suggestive at all. You're going to be cosplaying BB, right? There are a lot of awesome poses you can do as L and B that aren't suggestive at all.

If she is: It really depends on what your/her comfort level is. Keep in mind that you're in public, though. Basically, ask yourself "if I wasn't in cosplay and I was just hanging out here with a significant other, would it be okay to do _____?"

Nice choice of location, though. A courthouse could be a pretty cool location for a Death Note photoshoot. Just be careful with what you do, especially if you're cosplaying BB and have fake blood.

You're welcome. :) You might want to think about the fake blood part, though. Maybe do the black shirt version for this photoshoot, and save the fake blood for another time? I'm not saying it's necessarily a terrible idea, and I can almost guarantee you that anyone who's thinking isn't going to think that the blood is real, but you'll probably get some strange looks.

You'll probably be fine, though. You obviously know the location much better than I do. If it isn't likely that there will be that many people around, there shouldn't be a problem.

Now that I think about it more, I'm actually not sure. :/ The only time I've ever used fake blood was at a convention, so it was obvious that it was just part of my costume. Anyone have experience with this kind of situation?

I don't have a black shirt version, only my bloodied one. I think I'm prepared for some weird looks XP I get them all the time...

Oh dear lord. Did I forget MattXBB? I love it, it's slightly crack-ish, but I love them. =D But there's so little good fanfiction for the pairing, which stops me from loving it completely... =(

I think I may like every possible pairing.

My favorites are:
Matt x Mello
Mello x L

And others I like are:
BB x L
L x Light

I do not like Matt x Near though...I sometimes enjoy some Mello x Near, especially the idea of Near liking Mello.
