There are plenty of great anime moms out there, but these are the best.
Everyone needs a mother figure in their life, whether their own birth mother, a foster mother, or simply a responsible and kind woman who looks out for them somehow. The best moms in anime are like this too, and they are simply some of the best women in their respective franchises. Being a parent is a lot of work, and the best anime moms and dads know exactly what they're doing.
Anime moms in action series, such as popular Shonen titles , don't typically fight the bad guys head-on like their husbands or sons might, but all of these mothers are tough and capable in their own way. And some of them are indeed fighters, such as trained ninjas! Go, mom!
Trisha Elric never lived to see it, but her untimely death was the catalyst that launched the Elric brothers' entire quest to restore their bodies. Edward and Alphonse were devastated when their beloved mother died of a disease, and they resorted to forbidden human alchemy to try and restore her . That attempt failed, and the poor boys won't see their mother's face again. But until then, she was a wonderful wife and a smart person. During a family photo shoot, Hohenheim lamented at what a monster he was, and that he didn't really deserve an idyllic family life. Trisha thought otherwise, and told him that by no means should Hohenheim call himself a monster. Trisha's acceptance and love of him even brought him to tears!
We get another tragic anime mom who lost her life before her time, leaving behind young children. Masaki Kurosaki was born into a human Quincy household, and she was a bit of a wild child, often annoying the rest of the family. A fateful encounter with a hollow left her in dire straits until Captain Isshin Shiba gave up his spiritual powers to heal her. Later, they married as ordinary mortal humans, and had a happy family, the Kurosakis. Until that fateful, tragic day when Masaki perished at the hands of the villainous Grand Fisher.
Sachiko Yagami isn't a fighter like some other mothers on this list are, but she's no less impressive for it. For the most part, Sachiko is in the background of Death Note 's crime thriller story, but she has her moments, such as when the family struggled to heal after Sayu's kidnapping. Sachiko at once helped Sayu recover, and there's no way she'll give up on her daughter. And while Soichiro was afraid that Sachiko would leave him, Sachiko made it very clear that she was with him all the way, and never would she abandoned her family. Given how the Yagamis are the most unfortunate family in the world, according to Ryuk , Sachiko's strength and hope are remarkable (and inspiring).
Like several other mothers on this list, Inko is a wonderful anime mom because she was a great parent and is her son's tireless, #1 cheerleader and supporter. Inko was distraught when her son Izuku failed to manifest a quirk like most children do, but their fortunes changed when All Might granted Izuku his quirk, One For All. Inko was overjoyed, and she eagerly supported her son's her education. Then, the scars of battle started to appear, and Inko was terrified that her son would lose his life. Not that Izuku will stop fighting (or should), but it's pretty great to see how much Inko cares about her boy.
Here's one of the warrior-moms on this list, and no matter how you slice it, Chi-Chi is one of the best moms out there. She's even royalty, being the daughter of the Ox-King of Fire Mountain! She met Goku as a child, and later, they married and had a son together. The whole time, Chi-Chi is a cheerful (and hotheaded) mother who wants what's best for her family. She's not a pushover, either. While not being in the league of her husband or Vegeta, Chi-Chi has some impressive power and ranks as one of Earth's strongest women of all.
The story of Kyoko Honda is a heartbreaking one, but no less inspiring for it. In her youth, Kyoko was a tough biker girl known as the Crimson Butterfly, a lost delinquent who got into fights and pretty much had no future. This changed when she met Katsuya Honda, who saw her potential and helped her heal. Kyoko left behind the biker girl lifestyle for good, and she married the much-older Katsuya and had a daughter with him, Toru. Despite the devastating loss of her husband a few years later, Kyoko was a terrific mom who doted on her little girl. Not to mention she's a wise and compassionate person, remarking that everyone deserves a second chance. She rejects callous cynicism, saying that doubting is easy, but having faith in others is an effort well rewarded.
It's time for another warrior mom! Now we get the mother of the one and only Sasuke Uchiha . She probably never reached the same heights as her prodigious sons Sasuke and Itachi, but she did achieve the rank of Jonin, and this mom offered to help her son with shuriken training. Mikoto was also a kind woman and a doting parent, the best a young ninja in training could ask for. Unfortunately, she died with the rest of the Uchiha family when Itachi assassinated them.
Although Tomoko never acquired a stand of her own, she could still be considered a sort of fighter-mom. She and Joseph Joestar had a love-child together, Josuke Higashikata, and she helped her police husband raise him into a fine boy. She's beautiful, confident, and tough, and it takes quite a skilled parent to handle Josuke. Tomoko can defend herself from ordinary creeps and weirdos, and even when cornered by a terrifying villain in her home, Tomoko was ready to fight.
She's the mother of the video game-obsessed Keima Katsuragi. In some ways, she's a bit like Kyoko Honda: as a young woman, she was a tough biker girl, known as the "Snow Woman of the Mountain Pass." She gave up this lifestyle to start a family, and she also runs a family restaurant. Mari loves her son and warmly welcomes Elsie as a foster daughter, but she's still tough. Anyone who angers or harasses her is going to get a pummeling for sure!
As a girl, Delia once dreamed of being a model and a Pokemon trainer. Ultimately, she let go of those dreams to start a family, and she lovingly raised her son Ash into a fine boy. She also runs the restaurant of Pallet Town. Overall, Delia might not get a lot of screen time, but she's a wholesome and charming woman who greatly supports her son's many achievements (and is greatly proud of him). What Pokemon trainer wouldn't want a great mom like her?

Three cheers for moms. Single moms, cookie-baking moms, strict moms, workaholic moms, martial arts master moms, bike gang moms, wolf child moms and actually-giant-mecha moms—we appreciate you, in life and in anime. And there are some very, very good moms in anime.
In celebration of Mother’s Day, we’re honoring our five favorite anime moms. Here we go:
Junko keeps it very, very real. She’s busy as hell, a real businesswoman and the family’s breadwinner. In the morning, she helps her daughter Madoka tie bows into her hair. Late at night, when she returns from work, she drinks herself into a stupor. Her most memorable quote: “Us adults are always in pain. That’s why we’re allowed to drink alcohol!”
Chi-Chi’s idea of mothering might be a little controversial. She’s pretty strict. When her son Gohan is training to defeat some critically evil figure, or running off to save the world, Chi Chi’s always telling him, no , studying is more important . She’s overprotective and, probably, would prefer it if her husband and son weren’t constantly endangering themselves. But she loves her son and just wants him to grow into a good kid—which is exactly what he does.
Throughout Fruits Basket , Kyoko is a strong presence, even though we never really meet her. Before a fatal car crash left her daughter, Torhu, an orphan, Kyoko had lived a full life, spurning her bad family situation and joining a biker gang. She was all surgical masks and dyed-black hair until she met Torhu’s father, a kind businessman. Later in life, after he dies, Kyoko is a loving mother to Torhu, raising her alone selflessly and with good humor. She had a hard go of things, but taught her daughter to always be positive in the face of harsh times.
What a weird mom. We meet Sanae as she’s feeding protagonist Tomoya a very questionable rice cracker bread bun she baked. She’s soft-spoken and can go a little overboard if someone doesn’t like her bakery’s... stranger... goods, like octopus bread. But Sanae loves her family, and whomever her family loves, and will do anything to help them out. Also, her quirks are endearing as hell.
The strength Hana musters to raise her two half-wolf children is admirable. Back at school, Hana fell in love with a werewolf who dies soon after they have kids. Her kids aren’t the easiest—they’re constantly turning into mischievous little wolves. But Hana gives up everything to provide for her children, something she never thought she’d have to do. It’s inspirational and, at the same time, heartbreaking.
How in the world did Sachiko from Erased not make the cut?
She is the quintessential best mom. Hands down.
