Although Officer Luann Corbin, played by actress Crystal Fox , is introduced at the end of this episode as having just been brought that day from Jackson, Mississippi, to become the newest member of the Sparta Police Department, Fox is listed in the closing credits of the previous episode, "Murder Most Ancient", and was shown sitting in character at her desk in the office of the Sparta PD.
Why yes and his name is Parker. Not much left when you hate women and foreigners like Vietnamese. Sadly they wasted a talented actress with great audience appeal in just one show. So much could have been done with a female officer of her talent. Maybe they could have gotten rid of Althea instead. Anybody can scream and throw tantrums. However there was a good replacement in Lou Anne.

3.5 stars F/F-themed SPOILER ALERT: This film contains ambiguous issues of consent/rape. So this is Anne's story. Anne is a pretty but kinda nerdy photographer on her high school yearbook staff. She's 17 and on the cusp of tuning in to her lesbianism when her new crush turns out to be Sasha Basañez, senior beauty and star athlete on the softball team. Enter Anne's highly juvenile best friend, Clif Martinez... a possessive ape who harbors muddled and primal feelings of love/lust for her, and just can't be trusted when things get complicated. THE GOOD STUFF: - This is a very watchable film for our genre! - Anne (Dylan Gelula) was very appealing and I totally bought her attraction to another female. Good actress and I want to see her in more movies. - Sasha Basañez (Brianna Hildebrand) as Anne's love interest... oh my. This girl is a star. Loved her in Deadpool!! Charmed by her exotic, androgynous beauty and wolfish grin in real life interviews-- but what is with the wig in this movie, people... no, no, no. Do love that she's an out and proud queer in real life to boot!! yay!! :) - All the Hispanic characters were a positive thing to see. - Carmen Esposito cameos... yay!! (comedienne and queer) - Ambiguous issues of consent among all the teens here was interesting and holds the potential for intriguing conversation. - Depicted the angsty confusion of sexuality and love among teens rather well... the unintended bisexuality when you're gay but still trying to figure stuff out... the drama of parents and peers... all the secrets and lies... the complication of growing out of your male best friend as you discover women. - Positive end to a personal journey. The friendship and romance may have ultimately sucked... but if you look at this as a journey of the self and the sort of rites of passage we go through with guys and straight girls and closet cases when coming out at an early age... it's pretty accurate. - The texting. LOL. I doubt teens write that many complete sentences, but this is their relationship reality. Well done. - Some unusual flashback stuff goes down here which delays a clear picture of things. I found it interesting. - A straight dude wrote/directed this (Kerem Sanga) and he did a number of things well (see above). All the F/F intimacy is handled quite tastefully (a clear contrast to the M/F content). It remained subtle and sweet, which I thought was a good choice for this story. Good taste with the casting (minus the wig). The guy gets a few things about teenagers for sure. THE LAME STUFF: - A straight dude wrote/directed this. Kerem Sanga openly admits he wrote about something (F/F) he knows nothing about. He knows something about drunk teenagers and derpy dudes with poor judgment (it's not even his first film on the subject). But if he had a clue on the lesbian community then he'd know how sick and tired we are of depressing romances that end tragically!!!!! pfft. The extremity of Clif's thread feels a bit like an indulgence by Sanga. (I thought Clif and "Cool Guy at the Bar" actually looked like the writer/director, lol... that's a bit creepy lol) - All the Hispanic characters have a downside. Clif has rapeface and looks like he drools and eats crayons. Sasha is in whitewashed barbie drag... and the portrayal of Sasha and Clif's Hispanic families was one-dimensional and embarrassing to watch. So awful. - Carmen Esposito cameos... why is she everywhere doing so many jobs and staring all questionably at Anne?! What began as a very cool appearance got a bit weird (at least her final scene was very sweet). - Sasha's wig... why oh why... Were they maybe TRYING to make the leads look alike?! - This is another sad film in our genre as far as the romance goes. meh. I've got mixed feelings on this one. Some parts were quite sweet. But I would recommend renting, not buying. Good for a watch, but who wants to view the negative stuff here repeatedly... not me.

There's a really nice authenticity to this film. People make bad, but plausible, decisions. The characters have shades of grey. Just when you think you have them figured out, they do something that surprises you -- as people do in real life. And like with real life, there often isn't a traditional happy ending, but instead a feeling of hopefulness for the future. So manage your expectations accordingly. The male antagonist is creepy as all get out, but even he has some surprising character turns that you don't normally see in these types of films. The two lead actresses are attractive and look age-appropriate. One of them wears a wig throughout the movie (I'm guessing because she had to shave her head for her breakout DEADPOOL role), so it's sometimes distracting. But most importantly, the characters have genuine chemistry with each other. This film does a really nice job of showing the audience why these two girls fall in love, so it's much more believable, and allows you settle in to watching the story unfold, all the while rooting for the two girls to hold on to their connection. One other thing the film does well is use a non-linear storytelling approach. Interspersed flashbacks reveal motivations and events that give a new perspective to current situations. It added a fresh spin on what may otherwise be a formulaic story structure. If you're going into this expecting an R-rated film with erotic sex scenes, you'll be sorely disappointed. However, if you enjoy watching films with a tender, finely observed coming out/coming of age story, this one is definitely watch watching.

The wig that the producer or whomever made Brianna's character wear is utterly distracting, unrealistic-looking, and unnecessary. Did they think that Brianna's naturally short hair made her look too stereotypically gay? Even if the costume people did, there are much more realistic looking wigs than that. Judging by Brianna's character's (Sasha's) mother, Sasha is supposed to be mixed race. And, as a mixed person myself, black women tend to know hair and wigs, so, just to be ethnically accurate even, Sasha should have had a better wig, weave, or just worn her natural hair. Besides that, of course, the acting by Dylan and Brianna was very good and believable. The story should have stuck with them instead of (accidentally-feeling) like it segues into Cliff. The acting by Mateo, who plays Cliff, was just an unnecessary insertion of a creepy character. The movie sometimes seemed to shift focus to what he thought and felt, as flippant and confusing those thoughts and feelings were of this quasi-rapist, self-centered quasi-man.

Painful to watch. Unhealthy for lesbian youth. - "Don't be so desperate for gay content that you'll watch just anything; we need positive uplifting images of ourselves, not this garbage" PASS ON IT!! - Let the film industry know this kind of thing is not acceptable. (because I am aware that people sometimes watch movies to understand us and the things we go through, str8 people "go ahead and watch" - see the affects of shame, and having the wrong kind of friends. This might just sum up what it HAS BEEN (past tense) like to be a lesbian teen. All the betrayals, the blackmail, the shame, - the pain and suffering. Gay teens don't need to watch this; they live it. And they need a change in lifestyle and direction (meaning change the way they live as lesbians, it's their frame of mind and not realizing that guy you hang out with to be leery of). This does NOT help them!!! It hurts. They just went through this and have to watch it again as if that's all there is in life for them. Show me a NORMAL life!! What happens when YOUR OUT!!! The FUN, the GIRLS, the great times - and maybe some of the prejudice/harassment and unwanted male attention, but most of our lives are made up of JOY. Don't keep beating lesbian teens down emotionally, help them be sure of themselves. "screw this movie" - unacceptable. so glad times are changing!!! And this life only looks like that mainly for closeted teens. DON'T BE IN THE CLOSET!!!

I really enjoyed this movie. Boiled down, it's about the love between Anne and Sasha, how this affects those around them and how it affects each of the young women. The actresses portraying the young women had excellent chemistry and I was very caught up in their awkward dance toward each other. This movie is about first love between two teenage girls, so it doesn't run smooth, but there is nothing tragic in the ending. Drama yes, tragedy no. I thought the ending was very appropriate. Ultimately, one of the girls is able to fully accept herself, which is very positive message.

Gritty, realistic and original. Expert use of flashback sequences. First class acting and thoughtful editing. The ending was optimistic yet the "happy ending" people are still complaining. Young/first love rarely succeeds. The angst is palpable in real life as in this movie. Fact is that gay kids suffer more than their "het-tro"counterparts. This is a small movie that isn't quiet. It says a lot about a time that most of us forgot. Put this on your "must see" list because it is that good.

First off the acting and chemistry between the two main characters started off great. I felt the anxiety and the rush that they felt like it was my first time falling in love (or lust). What killed it for me was the typical "tragic lesbian ending." Why can't we have a somewhat happy ending? It's true that real life doesn't always have a happy ending and I didn't expect them to stay together forever, but why can't it be coming of age and a coming out movie? Five stars for giving me feels, one star for the writing and the ending, negative 2 stars for keeping the creepy male "best friend", and 10 stars for getting Carmen Espostio. It is worth a watch but we should demand better from Hollywood.

Provocative coming of age story about two teens who are faced with dealing with an American society rife with prejudice and fear. Very well done, and actually quite realistic--kids are very hard on each other even when they care deeply, and these two young women are very real. The acting is very good--a true cut above the standard quality in lesbian films. They have a well written script to aid their performance, too. Good job, worth watching!
