Working at night literally kills the brain

Neuroscientists from Singapore have found evidence that shift work (with night shifts) is associated with a decrease in brain volume in its key departments. An analysis of 14.2 thousand MRI scans showed that hard workers with unstable schedules have decreased memory, thinking speed, and emotion control over time. This is facilitated by a loss in volume in the right thalamus and a moderate loss in volume of the amygdala.

But don't rush to panic – it's reversible. If such shift work is completed, the loss in brain volume is partially restored within an average of 2.5 years.

How many of us are at risk because of the shift schedule?

"I'm with you." And I think I can already feel the changes(

– I feel like I'm out of work at night.

– I have a great schedule and feel great.
