Women's Volleyball Pepper Savings Bank appoints commentator Jang So-yeon as new coach
Women's professional volleyball Pepper Savings Bank announced on the 25th that it has appointed commentator Jang So-yeon (49) as its new coach.
Jang So-yeon, the new coach who played for the national team in Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000, and Athens in 2004, and three Asian Games, played as a middle blocker for more than 20 years between 1992 and 2016 with the business team Sunkyung, SK Chemicals, and the professional team KGC Ginseng Corporation (currently Jeonggwan-jang) and the Korea Expressway Corporation.
After retirement, he has been loved for his extensive and warm commentary on SBS Sports, a sports cable channel, for a long time, and returned to the court as a coach this time.
Head of Pepper Savings Bank Kim Dong-eon said, "Coach Jang has a brilliant career and many years of experience as a commentator, so she has a high understanding of the women's volleyball team and players," adding, "Based on strong leadership and management ability, we decided that he was the right person with excellent communication skills to break through the club's situation and unite the players into a one-team."
Coach Jang So-yeon said through the club, "I am very happy to take the path of a new leader as the new coach of Pepper Savings Bank," adding, "We will do our best for the change and growth of Pepper Savings Bank through volleyball that is faithful to the basics and meet fans' expectations."
Coach Lee Yong-hee was appointed as the new head coach to assist coach Jang.
Lee Yong-hee was a setter and had more than 10 years of leadership experience in Korean women's professional teams. She served as a head coach at GS Caltex for seven years from 2017.
Pepper Savings Bank gave the baton to U.S. coach Joe Trinzie to pursue data-based volleyball this season, but after the team stayed at the bottom, it terminated the contract with Trinzie by mutual agreement before the end of the season.
