Ive noticed 2 of my office girls do this whilst talking/discussing stuff with me on separate ocassions:
Im standing up facing her. She's seated in her chair. She will rotate her chair to face me squarely. Her legs will be opened wide as far as the arms of the chair. Her 2 hands will pin down whatever fabric there is from her dress or mini skirt down onto the seat. The 2 hands together seem to resemble the front legs of a cat's as it sits. This whole action will cause her to also lean forward. I dunno, even myself as a guy never even had my legs that wide apart when talking or just sitting.
ive also seen women in pants sitting with legs spread eagle at the canteen. Ive tried experimenting doing it & it caused a lot of tension in my thighs & hamstrings.
Is this supposed to be some kind of female crotch display? Since the body language books said it was so abt men who sit with their legs apart, so is this a female version?

It's just a DNA ting from the cave man days. Females would sit with their legs wide apart while eating to keep the flies way from the food.
Tantalising as it is to suggest that seduction is the reason, biology is actually the culprit. Men and women are built differently -- but you already knew that. Their pelvic bones are shaped differently and put together differently, so the femur fits into the socket in a slightly different manner. And this is the reason why most men (not just the ones on the subway) sit with their legs splayed open. It's a more comfortable position. Next time you're at a ball park, or stadium, take a look at the way guys are sitting. Most will have their knees apart.
I don't know, the only time I was ever comfortable spreading my legs open, in this way (other than the obvious!) was when I was in the last trimester of pregnancy, and this was because the bump was very big and heavy.
Some people like to 'chill out' spreading themselves around their seat, others scrunched up and other's upright..... I'm sure someone on here will find some research about what it all means!

I sit the same way. I know that my mother taught me different but it's simply more supportive for my back to sit with my legs wide apart.
If she is sitting as you describe, she is actually leaning towards you, and resting on her hands. Which means she trusts you. A lot of men sit as you describe. I hate it - they take up too much room on the tube or bus.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think you're reading too much into it.
Simply comfortable and she doesn't seem to have problems with you so it could be a gesture of trust being able to do so.
When I sit like that I simply do it because it is comfortable
Maybe these two are trying to seduce you. Usually women don't sit in this posture.
