Honestly, going Chi O (and going greek) was one of the best decisions I've ever made. If you look at my earlier post, it makes a difference in AND out of school. It's a lifetime bond, and so worth it. I know I probably didn't do your questions justice, because I go to a really small school, and bigger schools might be different, but I tried. I'm two years out of school and was in a sorority at Maryland which had an awesome Greek system but maybe not necessarily all the tradition of the sororities in the South where I'm guessing this comes from so maybe that's the reason for my confusion.
Who's writing them? Like older alum you know like if you're a legacy or just a family friend or something? Girls you've met from the chapter you want to join? Other random people just as a character reference? For some reason I get the vibe that you're supposed to get a rec from someone who was in the specific houses you're rushing, is that right? What if you don't know anyone? lol So many questions, but I'm so lost.
The only time I ever heard of any kind of letter writing during rush at Maryland was a girl who didn't get invited back to a house her grandmother was in at our school and so she wrote the chapter to urge them to reconsider. Just curious to understand more, I've seen a lot about them on my dash recently. If you've been or are going through it, or know what they're about, I'd love to be informed!

they always say "trust the system/process!" during recruitment and I don't think you always should.
A lot of girls are pushed into preffing houses they don't want on their card and sometimes end up in a house they don't want to be in. I know I was pressured.
Of course, it's definitely not rare fall in love with your last choice, but that doesn't always happen.
Don't gamble if you can't afford to lose!
